I got another mailing about this puppy today and it's very tempting but before we purchase this as our Christmas gift to each other, I wanted to ask you guys what you think of the thing.
Let me know!
Thanks - don't know what I would do without y'all.

Who uses a Mantis Tiller?
i use mine all the time and i wouldnt trade it for a diamond ring!!!!!
its worth every penny!
it goes and goes and tills new ground in a flash!
the key is knowing how to work it-without walking backwards everywhere.
I used a ryobi-JUNK! the mantis is 100times better than a ryobi
honda has a nice one-but my friend had to replace the transmisson already. He had a troybuilt too and the transmisson went in that.
Ive went through a set of tines-but thats cuz we both works n works in the garden!
I HIGHLY recommend this for a very MERRY christmas!
i used mine all day today! :)
I have one, I like it. It's really good for what it's good for, but it's good for everything.

I am so curious about this machine! Please, sundry & notmartha, tell us how you use this machine and what you love it most for!
I use this machine for everything-keeping the weeds out of my gardens. Tilling around the iris and daylilies-keeping them weedfree.
Breaking new ground for new beds. This machine can do it all.
On the film they show everyone walking backwards-well not me!
If you let the mantis go forward and pull it back towards you you can move forward and till away!
I have tilled up spots in the yard that were all lawn(grass)without a problem!
it takes alot less time than a ryobi too! :)
Like i said i wore my tines out using mine! looky!
I guess we need to ask Dave to put this in the FAQ forum! Sorry I missed all the previous threads but GLAD to have seen all this info and advice.
Since we have river silt (read that extremely sandy) soil I think this will be the PERFECT solution.
Thanks everyone... Especially thanks for the information about getting the electric vs. the other since my hands and wrists sometimes get really sore this is probably a MUCH better solution.
Love
Janie
I have a Honda mini-tiller.
Its very similar to the Mantis with a couple of exceptions.
You don't have to mix the oil with the gas, and it has wheels on it to move it around.
I checked out both before I bought this one 4 years ago, and those 2 reasons are why I went with the Honda. The prices are almost equal. I wouldn't be without it.

Wow Dori you really did a number on those tines! LOL.....
The appeal for me is the ability to weed between plants without getting on my hands and knees :) Can you edge the lawn with it too?
Whenever I need a new bed or hole I dig out my large rototiller. It's a beast and it beats me up every time. This machine would take up a lot less valuable real estate in my shed too. :)
I ordered the electric one with a kick stand. Shipping was FREE, amazing. There was a free border attachment included but with the electric I didn't have to take a bunch of stuff I didn't really want either.
I'm really excited now. YAYY!
Thanks, everyone for your great insights and ideas. Since I have carpal tunnel and painful hands sometimes and I HATE mixing fuel I decided electric made more sense.
Hurrah!
Janiejoy: My mantis is electric. I have had it about 12 yrs. and it still goes like new. They are real work horses. Never had any problems with it.
ihave carpul tunnerl really bad. I have to stop and let my hands un numb all the time-stinks!!!
enjoy your tiller-they are the best!
notmartha......I can not believe what you did to those tines !!! No wonder you have carpal tunnel! LOL
Did Mantis replace the tines for free or do they only replace them if they break?
only if they break!!!
62.00 for a new set-but what a difference they made! ;)
Just what I was looking for..I am definitely going to get a Mantis electric mini tiller. I have Fibromyalgia and this sounds like the machine for me...thanks everyone for your comments. I am sorry...I accidentally posted a question in the Hosta forum about tillers..oopsie..won't make that mistake again.
