This year I had ordered 3 white helitrope.
It's just beautiful. I was lucky, as never heard
of it before. Not sure if I can get it again.
I've never collected helitrope seeds before.
Does anyone know the technique and how successful is it?
Also thought about digging it up and putting it in a pot
to bring indoors for the winter. Anyone ever try this?
Really hate to lose these, they're bigger than the purple,
I've given it almost no attention, and been blooming since
July.
Any suggestions?
collecting helitrope seed
I have collected heliotrope seeds in the past, but my seedling flowers lacked scent, so I didn't do it again. Seeds are formed and will be viable several weeks after the bloom has faded. Cut the whole stalk and hang upside down in a paper bag to make it easier to gather them. One year a seed self-sowed, and its blooms smelled wonderful, tho.
I also tried digging them up and bringing them in. No such luck.
I tried rooting stems, failed.
I buy new ones every year but only when they have blooms to pass the sniff test. *sigh
I saw the white ones in a nursery this year, but since they weren't blooming, I didn't buy them. Next year, if I see them, I probably will tho. Thanks!
