Asian longhorn beetle

the asian longhorned beetle is a new and dangerous pest to the united states, that most likely arrived in new york from asia, in packing crate material.

the department of agriculture is asking for help.

Oh, dear! Another exotic invasive. I remember about a year ago there was some new reg put into effect for crates and packaging materials when importing and exporting goods. Something about the wood having to be kiln-dried to a certain temp or be made of pressed wood that was treated. It was for some critter they didn't want to get loose here and abroad. Maybe this was it.

i think so butterfly. it is exactly what you were talking about with the " green wooden "dunnage"—the packing crates and pallets used to import goods from overseas."
they are experimenting with eradication at certain quarantined locations now.
