Can I use potting soil in my garden beds? I have a 40 lb bag of the stuff from last year and I'd like to do something with it. I don't want to do any new containers this late in the season. My current containers are already having a hard time with this heat! Don't want to create any new victims!

Potting soil in garden beds
MaryAnn, I use potting soil in my garden beds. The only "bad" part is that the perlite and vermiculite sometimes come to the top and look a little yuckie for a while. We have terrible clay soil and I've dumped lots and lots of potting soil into the beds and it seems to help the texture of the soil.
Sounds like a winner to me! I am soil-challenged as well :-)
I'll throw anything into my beds that I can get--grass clippings & chopped up leaves are a favorite to amend the soil. Potting soil doesn't hurt at all. When I get mad at a houseplant, I throw the whole thing into a bed! LOL Great therapy for the things I can't control in my life. (Mother of two teen daughters)
wanda, i love your therapy for teenagers. hang in there girlfriend, they will grow up and not know everything. :)
Wanda, my DD is 19 and just starting to get an inkling that dumb ol' mom might have a few clues. She calls me up from TN with the strangest questions, and says, "I knew you'd know what to do". HA! If she had asked my advice a year ago she wouldn't be having these questions! LOL! Teenage girls are the worst. (gardening is great therapy for mom's of teenage girls)
I just keep believing that if she makes it to 21, she'll be OK. (two more years, two more years ...)
