sbarr's co-op morning glories

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i tried to winter my glories in the house and in a heated green house and they did flower for a while and survived for a while but then they died off. (annuals only live so long and trying to make it survive longer then nature plans taxes the plant.(clemson university statement to me)

i gave it a shot and it didnt work. they were in big pots so that wasnt a problem but i think once flowering starts thats it. i did this trying to get a yellow one to bloom which didnt. it withered and dies. all i can say is give them a shot. nothing ever works the same as far as gardening goes. always new surprises around the corner. good luck everyone. all the pics are great.

Seedsower,
Don't believe that one was offered last year; there was blue and pink but no red.

Sandy, is the photo of your tye dye? or the other one? Just curious, those are pretty, and love the var. leaves!!

Yes, my photo is of Pink Tye Dye, which looks very similar to the heian kagayaki. I only grew the pink tye dye once, but I sure did like it! Heres another pic just for fun!

Sandy, your mg looks so low to the ground. Did they start blooming right away? I'm trying to decide just where to put my mg's and have found a few great places, but I'm also considering some of those shortish (4 feet) free standing thingies that have the four plastic legs and an ornamental bird or whatever on top. Bad description, I know.

Pins2006: My morning glories don't usually start blooming here in zone 4/5 until at least August. It doesn't seem to matter how soon I start them....indoors or out...its usually never before August. The ones in the photos are growing on a trellis I made out of an old headboard from a bed. Japanese morning glories tend to scramble instead of twine, so thats probably why they look closer to the ground, which they are. Give them lots of sun and regular waterings and they should do OK. However, they will not tolerate any cold snaps when trying to get established...it will really set them back from what I've found. Happy growing!

Thanks, Sandy. Here in Atlanta, they should be up an going by early June. There ain't no such thing as a cold snap here in June. Sometimes I wish there were. lol

So... a scrambing vine. More to consider for designated spots.

Does anyone want to trade? Please send an email if you do and thanks!

Joseph
