sbarr's co-op morning glories

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Finally, I see buds setting on the Japanese morning glories from Sandra's co-op. I have 5 different ones which survived the wet and cold spring. Hope to see flowers and save seeds before the frost, should be fine! Will be posting photos soon! John

John - Bravo!!

Here's one of mine - slightly blurry, got ragged around the edges, even early morning.

I'll track down the name later and post an update to this message.

Sandra,
That's a pretty one; what is the name?
Is it Heian Izumi?

Here is the brown one with the white edge, color is quite close, and indescribable!

And this is the Fuschia one with the white edging, color is just not quite the right shade of Fuschia. However, this gives a close approximation, and one can see the beautiful form of the flower.

Just beautiful! I'm so glad to see these. I'm so disappointed in myself for not getting mine off to a good start. I have a few healthy looking vines but no blooms yet. I'll never have enough time to collect seeds from them this year. Glad I saved a few to plant for next year.

(Zone 5a)

They are all so pretty, it makes me wish I had a bigger garden.

Sue, how do you keep your seeds for the next year? In the refrigerator? I have tons I never planted with all my traveling this summer and I would love to hold them over.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I love all the beautiful colors of the morning glories....we grew so many of them when I was a kid but they were all blue or red........My what progress we have made with this plant......just think of the work that went in too all the development of the colors and flower type .....I just want to thank anyone growing these beauties for keeping them going and for sharing your pictures, seeds and ideas on how to display and grow them........... :o)

Oh, Alyssum!
So beautiful; mine are so puny ( I go out every morning around 6 AM and give them a pep talk) ~ the spider mites have been so unmerciful with them. I do hope just to get
seed and next year will be a better year!

Tokyo, Japan

Alyssum -

10 ft. tall?????????!!!!!! I guess that solves the question of whether or not these are just dwarf pot plants!
Could you write up your culture secrets for the next co-op??? Purty please?????

;)

TwinLakesChef - yours may be small, but the blooms are beautiful! No shame...

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Ohhhhhh these are so pretty.......cant wait till next year and start some myself.... thanks for all the pictures...I love'em all............... :o)

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Loph,
The blooms are 5 inches accross! That would beat out any American MG for size! Just started mine so late ther is no way I can have vines ten feet long.

Next year will start earlier and use lots of trellis!

Tokyo, Japan

You do that TLC! Hope we can offer you a lot of beauties in the next co-op!

In fact all your lovely pics (everybody else's too) has got me so interested, I just might tear something out of my 2 ft. square garden so I can try some too next year!

;)

Cortlandt Manor, NY(Zone 6a)

I honestly have no secret for these -- although I have some areas of my garden that are full of compost, I planted these in unamended plain garden soil in full sun and used Miracle Grow on them 3-4 times this summer to give them a little boost.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Thank you all of you for posting the beautiful MGs. I was too late to get in on the co-op but sure hope to get in on one if there is one next year. About MG seeds, do you think they will come true from saved seeds. if they are hybrids, doesn't seem likely. One east end of my greenhouse I have quite a lot of seedling MG from past years. I did plant some Tye Dye ones but they got pretty much crowded out by the volunteers. My Grandpa Ott ones are pretty on my new trellis in the woodland garden area. Great pictures. Thanks again.
