Another time “alone”/vacation

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

You'll be fine. Just take a deep breath, smile (or grimace if you like), put yourself there, and blast us with it!

I'll be looking for your thread!

(Zone 5a)

Ok look no further here it is and please let me know what you think about it. http://davesgarden.com/t/394034/

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Glad you didn't edit your story, Shoe! I had fun reading it, too :) Reminded me of when I'm home alone and made me wonder about when DH is home alone ~ lol!

Would still love to hear the first sampler CD... Didn't ye post something above about making it available? Maybe I mis-read it...

Yeah, after you posted whether or not to take kids out of school for RU, you got ME thinking maybe I shouldn't do that. So, I may be coming alone and asking if I can pitch small tent by you & Kim/Howie....

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

morph~ Howdy doo!

As for taking the youngin's outta school...I had more "pro's" than "con's" about that issue, I think you should consider it!
I hope to bring DD (if all goes well with the powers that be). Why not bring yours? It will be an educational period in their lives I'm sure!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

They used to have something entitled "best interest of child" as a reason to take a child out of school. I certainly remember all of the times that were in my "Best Interest" alot more vividly that I remember day to day life at school. If all else ffails, Make a memmory. Ir seems to be a specialty of yours.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Frogs...many times my DD and I are out and about, sometimes on the river, sometimes on the farm, sometimes I'm gettin' my underarms poked by a nine yr olds index finger and we look at each other. "♫Making memories! ♫♫"

I agree with ya...making memories is as fun as remembering them!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Yeah, but remember how much bigger and brighter those nine year old memories are?! Your remember being poked in the pits and she remembers the whole scene. It always amazed me how unlike adult perceptions those of children are. They arre so much fun!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Ten-four on that, Frogs. I'm surprised how much they perceive! Right down to the letter! (pretty amazing!)

I read recently that children laugh umpteen times a day...adults, very few times a day. Where did we go wrong? Guess we better give and get more laffs, eh? Yee-haww! (That was yours! I'll do one for me later!) ;>)

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

So does my 85 yr old Father. I wish I had paid better attention. He is one of the most amazing person I know. He just traveled across country for 5 months. He is rotten pigheaded and untrainable but I wouldn't change a thing.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Rotten, pigheaded, untrainable? You've been talking about me to my wife? (You're kinda scary!) :>)

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Don't have to. I am a card carrying member of the group too. We can't help it.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Shoe, just a thought, if you talked with the administration at her school..maybe if DD is willing to do an essay on something educational about her time away, like if yall stop to visit a historical site, or even the educational approach of plants..they would not count it as "off" time...just a thought...

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Now that's a good idea, Lisa! Hmmm...!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Call in scared. You're afraid she can't come to school.
Call in well. Feel too good to go to school.

Show 'em your math problems and promise to do one every day!! That'll fix their wagons.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAH!...good suggestions! (I used to call in "well" at a previous job I had.)

I'm sure we'll be taking some type of "homework" along.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

How well I remember "trip" homework. I had to figure out mileage, MPG, keep that line drawn on the map to show where we had traveled, How far we went every day and total. I wasn't too crazy about it then, as we used to travel for 12 wks. at a time, but I am grateful now. I am always amazed at how many people cant find up on a map.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Okay, I'm reconsidering.... But, DS is a VERY serious young man. Meeting new people is very hard for him as he puts up a shell that I swear is made out of steel and about a foot thick! Maybe this would help that a bit?

Shoe, your daughter's name is Alex? If so, so is my DS :) LOL ~ I didn't pick up on that before now....

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Shoe, and the rest with answers, loved this thread. Glad you had a good at Home vacation Shoe. BBQ, cooking, and all the rest. Donna

Crossville, TN

Soe....any time spent with you is an EDUCATION!!! Jo

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Morph...just curious, what age is your Alex?

Rutholive/Donna...ain't it a grand thing enjoying DG!? Such a great outlet for us all! (Hmmm...just noticed your where-abouts...Washingiton! That would make an interesting Roundup area, people from CA to Alaska (Weezy!), Oregon regions might could make it there!

I hear ya, Roadrunner! Life is a learning experience! (just not quite sure which experience will happen next!)

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Shoe, 10 closing in on 11 this fall... If they can get past cooties, maybe a good match?

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAH!...Cooties?? Now THAT might be a problem! YOu know how THEY are! *grin! Cooties, haven't heard of that 'disease' in a long time!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

lol ~ DS likes nature & hiking and different sports. is you DD more into girl stuff or more tom boy? i don't think he has aversion to girls, but he is certainly not in the seeking girls stage yet...

Crossville, TN

Morph.....Alex caught the best fish at Round Up last year....does that tell you anything? LOL Jo

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Morph...she is a wonderfully pleasant blend of both!

She sounds like your Alex...loves nature and hiking, and last yr enjoyed playing soccer at school! (Was never much into "competition" sports before that...like her parents she wasn't into a game where there was a winner and a "loser".)

Jo, that is true! A great moment in history!

That's awesome! What a cutie :) Yes, if DS can let down his guard, I think they would have a lot in common. I think her fish is bigger than the ones we catch in Canada ~ lol! We have a big fish, most fish and first fish contest. Think she might beat us in the big fish one!

Thanks for posting, Shoe :0

Crossville, TN

Don't let Badseed's kids see this picture....remember last year? As soon as they got there ...into the mud!!! I think everyone was into the "cleanup" process. LOL Jo

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Not too sure how much fishing will get done in Ky. Turns out a day license to fish is $15.00 (or so we think...will have to double check on that)...that's a bit much for us, especially if you don't catch much. Sure would like to do some midnite catfishin' tho!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

We won't be paying to fish, that's for certain! We do in Canada cuz we are there an entire week and with exchange rate, it's much more affordable...

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)
