Sending daylilies in bud

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

I live in Southern WI and have a trade in Iowa-the thing is I would like to send a daylily that is in bud; I would wrap tissue around the budstalks to prevent breakage and would not dry the roots or wrap them in wet paper either. Has anyone tried this? If it was across the country, I would be more concerned, but they are just south of us.

Give it a shot. If worse comes to worse the recipient can cut off the bud scape.

Please wrap the roots in damp paper towels and then in plastic! I do not understand why people insist on mailing daylilies dry. Depending on the stage of growth bud scape is in, it might bloom! John

I have sent and received daylilies that had buds on them and they have bloomed with no problems. I sent one to Tennesse. So give it a try. Yes I also wrapped it's roots in damp paper towels. I sent it just like I send any other plant. The one's I received were the same way. Go for it.

I have found that plants will often make it with flower intact if you roll them in some type of paper, like a tube. It will keep them from sliding back and forth and banging the end of the plant.
