I have been wondering and dreaming on this one,Thanks for the update!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I do hope you are able to keep that beautiful variegated datura alive, also hope you get some good results from the airlayering. I would surely love to have one. Maybe TerraNova will do something with it. Donna

That would be soooo cool if it works out for you,and I hope you make tons of money on it and the satisfaction that you contributed the most beautiful datura in the world to the world! You'll go down in brug/dat history as the dat lady!

I was wondering about this just yesterday.

Cathy, did you ever get cuttings to root? This one has landed on my must-have list!

EVERETT, WA(Zone 7a)

oh wow i definitely want to be on the i want list! I am growing lots of daturas in my greenhouse and this would be such a compliment!

Just found this thread - wow, what a story. How did it all turn out?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I have propagated daturas from stem and tip cuttings before (half ripened cuttings) and used bottom heat and mist and they rooted easily. Seedlings will doubtful come back true..but worth a try.Very unique markings for a datura..looks like Snowbank brug! :-)

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I missed also. How did it go? If there is a list I want on it. :)

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Nothing yet, sorry to say! I am still trying to get some started. I will let you all know if I ever manage to do so. I thought I had one going, then one day it bent over and that was that, no roots. I cut this plant back, it wasn't looking good, the stem was getting soft. I hope nothing is wrong with it. Can someone tell me if this plant will come back from the roots? The roots look nice and white. I did winter over several other datura and they seem to be doing better that this one. I am kinda worried about it. I hope I don't lose it. Cathy

Cathy,
They say that Daturas are short-lived perennials, which means they should live two to three years if protected from frost and freezing weather. Datura Wrightii and Datura Inoxia come back in the spring from a tuber-like root, but Datura Metel does not have that characteristic and is usually treated as an annual. I cannot tell you which one you have, but if you examine the roots, you should be able to see if it has a tuber or not. I wish you the best.

OH GOSH CATHY!!!

I sure will be praying for you!!

Northridge, CA(Zone 10a)

I just stumbled on this thread. One look at that gorgeous foliage and I immediately thought of the Snowbank brug - same reaction as Eclipse's. Into my second year growing daturas, my Inoxias are coming back from tubers, just like Clare_ca says. Some of my purple metels died to the ground but others still have their black stems plump and apparently alive, so I'm hoping they will soon sprout new growth.

Like everyone else on this forum I hope Cathy you can keep it alive and growing again this spring. I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

Amen!

I would not worry over it too much. God is generous. Everytime I get a plant I really like I worry and tend to over or under water it and lose it. Hang tight it will prevail. I was at houston garden center this evening and found the large solid marigolds in off white. They only sell them in a 24 plant flat for 6.99 not bad, but these nurseries are tricky enough to know if you get hooked on it to only sell it in a 24 pack more money than just a 6 pack. Thats ok I really love this will try to get a picture of them soon.
Hang in there sweetie our prays are going up. What a beauty.

I have to ask.....how did the tale end?

Did you get any seeds from it to plant this year? I hope so. It is a beautiful plant.

Blessings,

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

No, the summer it bloomed it made seed pods but they fell off before they matured. Oh well, maybe someone will get another one some day.
