Variegated Datura

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm just saying that I do not have Mo.Marble in my yard, and would like it,not trying to confuse the two.;0)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Bob, I had really bad results with the Missouri Marble. It was not a good grower and of course, the bloom was white, and not blue as the picture had showed us. I like variegated, but Mo. Marble did not impress me at all. This is just my opinion and others may have had great luck with it. I love the looks of this one that Cathy has posted. That foliage is to die for.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I agree Shirley,Cathy has one that is out of this world! You know me,I love them all,Big or Small.

Congratulations!!! You must be sooooo excited :)
Keep us all in mind if you get any seeds :)

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

The next step is to get 3 rooted cuttings. He said the side shoots should be at least 4-5" long before taking a cutting so I have to wait a couple of weeks, I have one that's about 3" long. Once they have rooted I will get back intouch with them. Keep me in your prayers! Cathy

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am surprised they are not going to come take some to grow it in a test tube! Was he excited? Waht else did he say? We need to know! LOL

rural, WY(Zone 3a)

Generally nurseries won't propagate annuals by tissue culture. It is very expensive. A lab costs over 1M Canadian dollars. Has anyone had luck rooting D. metel, if so I think now is a great time to speak up.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Not me,I had a 10ft double yellow I wanted to clone,No luck, sure hope you do better!

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

He said he needs 3 plants, 1 for tissue culture, 1 for back up and testing, and 1 for show. He told me how to do these cuttings, and explained what will happen if all goes well. Thank you for all your prayers! I have several blooms on this plant, so I'm also hoping for a lot of seeds, who knows maybe they will come true from seed, this one was grown from seed. I am also going to try a cross this datura with a datura black currant swirl, who knows, maybe next year I will have a double with a purple bloom. Wouldn't that be beautiful! Keep me in your prayers! Thanks, Cathy

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Wow lucky you. It is beautiful.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Can you tell us how he told you to root the cuttings? Does he know a trick or 2?

Gee Root....10 ft tall datura???? How big do they normally get?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Wow! This is sounding really cool! So, has the owner of the original seeds contacted you yet?? LOL
Kell, my Evening Fragrance easily gets 6'x6' with no pampering at all. :)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Somehow I missed this the first time around! Now I can say, Cathy, what a fabulous Datura!!!

Any updates from terranova?

BTW, I have some Datura seeds from Gor'e Island, said to reach 16 feet tall. Perhaps there, did not happen this year in NJ.

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

We air layered this plant in October, will be checking for roots in a couple of weeks. I have it under lights and it's doing very well. Lost a lot of it's big leaves, I think from bringing into the house. New leaves are growing. I did not get any seeds off this beauty. I hand pollinated but the seeds would turn to mush and drop off. I'll try again next year. I have been keeping in touch with terra nova, there still waiting! Thank you for your prayers, I will update soon. 16' datura, wow must be beautiful. I think it was a bad year for datura's it was cold and rainy, they must like it hot. Last year I had 1 triple yellow datura, it bloomed all summer, was big and full of blooms and seed pods, this year none of my datura acted like that. But I also started my seeds in late April, the first year I started my datura in February. I have decided to keep one of each of my datura in the house to winter over, they are doing fine as of now. I cut them back and see if they winter over ok. I also did a couple of cuttings to root, 1 out of 3 cuttings rooted on the black currant swirl. It's is now putting on new leaves. Cathy

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)
