Most of us are familiar with the weed-like variety with the dark yellow flowers of Cytisus scoparius, commonly known as Scotch Broome. I already had a lemon-chiffon one in my yard, and love the early flowers; later on I use the greenery in a vase with flowers.
I just got this wonderful pink-to red- to maroon flowering one ('Burkwoodii') at the nursery. Hopefully next year it will flower enough for me to add my own photos to the PDB. (I'll add my lemon-chiffon one, too.) Over the 5 years I've had one, I've never found it to be invasive (like the roadside variety) and have never even had one seedling come up.

Lookie what I got!
Oh, that is just a gorgeous plant! And what a wonderful story that gardener wrote, too. I hope your plant does well for you. I will be on the lookout for one for myself!
darius good for you. They are lovely plants and the fragrance is wonderful. So...will you be keeping this one in the pot?? :-)
Het, Margaret. Your back must be a wee bit better if you are at the computer! Yes, this one stays in a pot... we signed the Listing Contract yesterday to sell the house.
darius - it's not better unfortunately. Came on line to check for the weather in Europe - they are having a terrible heatwave especially in Germany. Not stopping, but just had to take a peak at DG - naturally. :-) I'm off!!!!
