My postman gave me some ginger plants last year which I planted. They have bloomed...the white blooms smell heavenly!!! But the foilage is always so ratty looking...brown spots, tattered ends etc. Is this natural with ginger plants? I would love to plant some more just for the blooms! Do they bloom the first year? Any ginger info appreciated! My soil is sandy and alkaline. Thanks!

I agree,my best looking ones from Brugmania,are in a ton of shade and look great!going to Trops to see what Lisa said.
