In my neverending quest to expand our 'yard'... This is the area that I'm going to be working on over the coming months... as you can see, it's mostly shade, it's nice and cool, and I want to make it relaxing as well.
Looking at Terry's co-op, I didn't want to muttle the thread with my questions, but, could anyone please give suggestions as to what I can put in there to make it come alive doesn't have to be from the co-op.
I was looking at the wildflowers, but not sure which ones will survive in shade... not sure if I want ferns or not, and not sure which ones like shade anyway. There will be raised beds, beds around trees, anywhere I can find a place to plant something. There is a fence row in the back, but not sure if I want to chance the cows or horse eating one of my plants!
Suggestions Please
most of them in terrys co-op are for shady areas!
i think you could pick anything you wanted-you can copy and paste the name in the plantdata base for info if you need it
good luck!
For my shady areas, I use plants that keep nice foliage after the blooms leave: baptisma, thalictrum, columbine, astilbe (this would be for a small area) ladybell and spiderwort-because when they are finished and look tattered you can cut back for a second bloom. My daylilies, especially the kwanzo stay very well in the shade. Hope that this helps.
Thanks Dori!
That is what I'm hoping for Marcia. I have tons of astilbe to divide... I didn't know that daylillies would do well in shade... hmmmmmm
Thank you!!!
If you cleared out some of the undergrowth, maybe a table and chairs. Or an obelisk to catch the eye.

gold dog... LOL
the underbrush will be gone... there is a concret patio in the center of the area, so, yes, table and chairs will go there without a doubt.
thank you NoHO20
