I hope someone can help me with this. I planted bunches of zinnas and they are healthy and in bloom. The problem I have is that every little wind or rain knocks them down. I know I am going to have to stake them but I have noticed that the roots are out of the ground. I planted them correctly and water them deeply. What causes this and what can I do about it? I have tried "pushing them down into to soil a little but that breaks the roots. Any suggestions?Also, can these be prunned? How long do they usually bloom?

Zinnias love to be cut. They'll keep reproducing flowers if you keep cutting them off. A good hair cut might even make them bushier so they won't flop so badly.

Thanks, yup, it worked. These have done so well. I can see where the "hair cut" helped. I did go ahead and stake them tho because they are pushing 4+ ft. Do you save your seeds? I am wondering if I so save them will they bloom as well or is it better to just buy new ones?
