My trouble spot........

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I have a pain in the rumpcus garden spot. I won't say impossible. I think I just can't find the right plants for the area. It is right next to the foundation and about 30x4. Things that do/did well there-wild grapes, perennial sweet peas, hosta, but only right behind a huge tree planted at the front, sedums, comfrey (in a pot), solomon's seal, ampelopsis, eryngium, etc. I had also planted some other things there which bloomed, but did not do so well. The soil is too dry for some things and I don't often water there. Others died because my neighbor sometimes gets a bit too happy with the water for a few days. LOL Ratibida bloomed well but always fell over. Yarrow falls over. Foxglove bloomed but was puny. Saponaria did well then died out. Cerastium did well too and died out. Same with St. John's Wort. Maybe I need to just keep planting those! LOL The area gets bright morning and early noon sun, then shade the rest of the day. Shade plants get too much sun, sun plants gon't get enough sun.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Michele,

What you need there are the 2 plants I promised to send you.

The Jeruselum Sage and the Cuphea Batface/Firefly. The Sage does very well in drought type soil and does even better when a water it a little more than normal. It can fill that space in no time.

The Cuphea is also a very hardy little plant and can spread out for you too.

I will email you, K?

Donna
