Yep! Some yrs back we "created" Daughter's Day. Around age 3 or 4 Alex wondered "if there's Mother's Day and Father's Day, when is Daughter's Day?". I quickly said "next month". (By the way, the official date is: take the number of days between Mom's Day and Dad's Day, and Daughter's Day is that number of days after Dad's Day!)
This yr I stuffed a pinada with loads of candy and also a key with a clue that leads to a treasure chest! Great fun!
I took so many pics I can't post them all! But here is where the fun began!
'Twas Daughter's Day here!
What a fun idea! Alex has grown so much and it looks like she has a direct aim on the pinata! I have a feeling this day was a fun day for you all and will be a memory to cherish.
What a great Dad you are! Mom is for sure also! What great memories you're creating. Your Alex is sure to grow up to be the kind of person this earth needs more of!
She's a very lucky girl to have you as her dad!!!
Another quick pic (aren't we supposed to limit pics now?) When Alex got her first bike, complete with training wheels, I think it was on another Daughter's Day (not sure tho!). "Someone" left a fishing pole in the front yard...she had to reel it in. The line went thru the yard, around the house, and behind the house...the end of the line went to a bicycle WAY up on the roof of the out-building in the back yard! So of course...that's where the treasure chest was hidden! (By the way, she not only got the bike but also the Elmo fishing pole!)
Too Cool Shoe!!!!!!
Shoe, I think limiting pics was only in the PDB? anyway, you can't end it there, have to see more of this wonderful story!
Shoe, yer a genius because I know that you'd make a Son's Day too!! Can I come live with y'all and be yer son!??
How great this is!!! I still do a scavenger hunt on Easter morning for my sons...... and they're 20 and 22!!!! They still brag to their friends about it! It's the little things with love that mean so much. Great job Shoe!
Cool, Horseshoe!
After Mother's day, then Father's day this year, Darling grandson Jack has also asked when children's day was. I'll have to tell his parents about your idea. Thanks for sharing!
Shoe, If more people would have a daughter or son's day children may not get into as much trouble. This is a great idea and great parents for making her feel so special. Good work or should I say fun for the whole family.
Great fun!! What an idea!! The memories will go on forever and I bet there will be Daughter's Days and Son's Days for her children.
Oh, Shoe, can I adopt you as my daddy? That's so cool, that and your infamous Christmas tree hunts!
Shoe, you are the coolest! Alex is a very lucky girl
I cannot believe how that child has grown! She will be as tall as you Shoe. LOL...What a GREAT idea! Ok so what is in the treasure chest? I'm sitting on the edge of my seat here! What a wonderful day...You're the man...Shoe!
What a wonderful IDEA! We amy have to institute it around here. I have a DD that's 11 going on 30. My son was just born old but is will ing to appease his mother in all frivolities. Days all their own mean to much to the kids. Great job!
HAH! tiG!, better buckle up! Please don't fall off your chair! TC, come on...you can help hold tiG in! I'll adopt you both!
Celia and Lois...I think ya'll should go for it! We all need some "special-ness", eh? Eh?
Howdy Jim! Nice to see you! (Hope ya'll are doing super well!) I agree with your words...it's a goal, and a fun one!
Mary, I hope the holiday continues on forever! And GW...come on down, I have room for another one! (or two, or three, or...).
Lisa...your Sally is the perfect age to introduce to "Daughter's Day"...surprise her! She'll love it!
Howdy Vic!...hehehe...what's in the chest? tee-hee! Hmmm....dare I say? Only goodies that a child would love! (and the parents also!)
Frogsrus (a.k.a Froggy, from the Little Rascals?)...jump on the wagon, join in with your children. Trust me, great fun!
Hmmm...and now...should I? Hmmm....lemme think....
Okay okay...As I said above, the "treasure chest" was hidden on the roof (where her first bike was). The clue led to it...she found it, climbed up a ladder to get it, and we nervously watched her haul it down...well, at least to the edge of the roof. At that point I could grab a'hold of it. I must admit, the sunlight, the trees, the chest, and our DD sure make a nice colorful pic, eh?
This is so exciting to watch unfold. I am jumping in here just before the grand opening and can't wait to see it.
Shoe, this special day is awesome and I have goosebumps just reading about it all. I sure hope she gets to come with you to the Kentucky RU as I would love to meet this special lady of yours....and you too of course.
OK, I'll let you continue your presentation, but don't keep us in suspense too long.
Donna
This is just too cool. :)
Does she get to keep that neat chest too? It looks like it could hold a lot of young girls treasures!
Looks as though you have started something here Shoe and why not - priceless notions.....I wish you were my daddy!! lol!!!
Quite the cliffhanger.
And children need that - to feel like the most special person in the world. Have to go to work, but bookmarking this one for the end of the story. Celia, I love what you said about your sons - they didn't outgrow your special treat for them. Hopefully they'll do the same with their children.
Thanks for putting a smile on my face as I head to the salt mines. It's these little extras, the special things we do for others that give us all more humanity. And to show the love with so much creativity and fun - what a treat!!
The treasures...
...All the leftover candy I couldn't fit into the pinada/pinata (sp?); a book from DW about how to make jewelry from beads (that is what has Alex's attention already!) (and there are plenty of beads as well!); a "surprise" gift me and Alex picked up (in the Haw-hah bag!)...a really great smelling candle, one of the best smelling I've ever smelled (cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg) and Alex thought we were getting it for DW!; ALSO, in the chest was a gift for DW..."without the Mother, we couldn't have a Daughter", some ear-rings made by a friend who owns a jewelry shop. Alex picked them out cuz I said I "just want to pop in here and get Mom a surprise gift, she hasn't had one in a while"!
How Wonderful! What lucky girl!
Alex is a real beauty and so tall and boy, does she ever look happy!!!! What a lovely adventure for her and for us. Thanks Shoe - this is what 'living' is all about. Taking time to stand still and cossetting a rose named Alex. :-)
Oh this is so cool! I have been wanting to get on all day to see the end of this story. Gosh Shoe, you deserve Father of the Year award or maybe Father of the century! What a special special day.
Ditto to the above. I can't wait to see what you are up to next. Christmas, now this.
Shoe...you're a real "softie"....who'd a thunk it!! Alex HAS grow a lot...and I too hope she can come to round up. The last Sunday in October is Children's Day in New Zeland....why not here too?? Jo
***** ((( Shoe, Alexandra & Alex ))) *****
Shoe and Alexandra, you seem to be magnificent parents. What a wonderful childhood Alex is having with you guiding and loving her! I wish all children could be so blessed and treasured!
Celia, my son (26) sent my DH and myself on a Easter Egg hunt this Easter. I am still finding chocolate eggs that he hid for us. LOL Thank goodness he didn't hide any real eggs around. At least none that I have smelled.
Edited because I couldn't spell back then and just found that there was a problem here. . :)

*bump* This is just so cool to read again (thanks, Dea for linking to it). Had to bump it for newer members to see.
I'd still adopt you as my father, Shoe!
What a delightful story! :)
I remember you posting about this in past years and think it is just wonderful. And Alex has grown so much. She is a beautiful young woman. You and your wife are obviously wonderful parents.
