Types of Gardens ....

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I hear some discussion of a "formal garden" or a "cottage garden" .. and I can only guess there are more types of gardens .... Where can I find good pictures of these different styles? Trying to make some decisions here, and need a good selection to make choices from ..

TIA,

And to tag onto Jennifer's request/question, we'd love for DG members to post images of their garden style examples in Garden Terms: http://davesgarden.com/search/terms.php?search_text=garden

I think you'll find there are entries for cottage garden and formal garden as well as meadow garden, rock garden, balcony garden, even the humble vegetable garden and potager ...)

Great, Terry, but that still leaves me searching for advice, waiting on someone to add to Garden Terms .

If anyone has image links, or something other than grammar definitions, I'd love to see them.

I'm a blank slate, ready to be filled with ideas and suggestions!

Thanks,
-Jennifer

Here's my Journal entry for a visit to Biddulph Grange last August that, while not great photography, might offer one or two ideas.

My goodness, BAA, it would take an ARMY of gardeners to build and mailtain that garden!

Some of those images are great, Baa! I did get some good ideas from them. I love that one formal area with the hedges trimmed in those neat shapes outlining the grassy areas.... Wonder if I can do that .... Hmmm...

I had forgotten this journal entry. Yes, thanks for the ideas! If anyone has design block, send them to this address.

It was just a pity I'd taken the smaller memory stick with me on my trip. The photos are just a sample of what had been acheived so far in it's restoration to it's true Victorian magnificence. The reason this garden really took my imagination is because I can't think of any other garden that has such a huge mass of ideas all rolled into one plot of 15 acres. You never know what's around the corner!

I don't really go to the 'big' gardens for a visit is because they become rather dull after a while but this one kept me active for over 4 hours and I intend to go back!

If I find any sites which might be of some interest, (you might like to visit the Museum of Garden History or the Chelsea Physic Garden web site for a formal style), I'll put them up here.
