Can I move these guys without killing them? I want to put some of my culinary herbs in this planter -- but I have to move the alliums to one side (or maybe out of this planter?)...
If I'm going to plant herbs in here I can't wait for them to be done - but I don't want to kill them, they're so cool.
moving alliums?
Janie, go ahead and move them now if you have to: try to keep as much of the soil around the roots as possible. If that isn't possible, then just dig up the bulb and re-plant. You might get small or no flowers next year, but they are tough, and won't die if they are moved in bloom.
These look like A. christophii? Beautiful :)
Baa id's them as Allium spherocephalum - Round headed leek.
They really are beautiful and fun to watch bloom! I may be moving these tomorrow as I just received the basils mystic sent me and they MUST not be lost!
This planter has rich soil and lots of full sunshine so it's a great place for basils and other herbs (except Rosemary - not enough drainage).
Thanks for the tips, Kathy.
Looking forward to getting these into a manageable clump, LOL!
