Just Dunk 'Em

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

I'm sure many of you probably already do this but....we've had so much darn rain here and now 1 week of hot, hot sun. Perennials are great but my annual baskets scattered around soak up so much water and I just can't get to them twice a day with my work schedule. They were very un-happy yesterday and I knew I had to work both days this weekend, so - I put out a big tub of water and now just dunk them totally. Seems to last a good 24 hours and will put some fertilizer in the water about every three weeks. The pots/baskets are heavy, but happy :)

DS - great idea! Keeping a big pot of water on the porch will also keep me from having the drag the hose around to the baskets!

We were recently gone for 9 days and I did the same thing while we were gone. We had a house, plant, and critter sitter but there is so much to do I thought it would ease things up for them not to have to do the hanging baskets. GREAT IDEA! Thanks for sharing it!

Dea that's a great idea, thanks.

Great idea, as long as it's where mosquitoes can't breed, and if the water is changed on a regular basis.

Yes 'eyes' I was thinking about that issue as it's so stinking hot here. The tub I'm using is about 2.5 feet diameter so I threw a Tblsp of hort oil on top - I suppose veg oil would work too. Skeeters can't breed or live and I don't have to waste the water. The baskets haven't minded the hort oil yet but we shall see! BTW - I'm kind of short and it was nice while the baskets are dunking to be able to "work on the tops" which are usually above my view!

LOL....Dea, yep us shorties don't get a very good bird's eye view, do we? The oil sounds like a very good idea!!
