Just got hit with over 5" of rain in 1-1/2 hrs and had golf ball sized hail with 60+ MPH winds. My dahila (which had 6 buds on it!) and my lilies have all been snapped in two and lay on the ground. Tree limbs, leaves and debris everywhere. Just when everything was looking so good! Here's the best pic I could get of the hail stones - it was taken during the downpour through a window so it's a bit hazy.
My Gardens are a Mess!
I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your plants :(
Are you alright though? This weather has been just mad this year. It finally stopped raining here and was really nice today
No major damage at our place, but a neighor had a new sappling tilt right out of the ground. For awhile there it was a little scary as they were talking about heading to the basement on the TV. Nothing ever developed thankfully. We just had massive tornadoes in early May in the surrounding towns. I was home alone with the baby calling DH every 10 minutes. Like my mom said, "such is the life of a gardener".
is there anything anyone can send? I don't have much but I'll be more than happy to share whatever I have in plants or seeds :)
Wow! At least you are all safe. The plants will recover soon enough.
Naw....thanks for the offer though. You're a sweetie, flowox! I still got lots of stuff and the dahlia, lilies and spiderwort will come back next year.
ok but if you change your mind, just give me a holla....lol
Brenda I'm so sorry about your garden but thankful that you are alright, like you said plants will return.
Ruth
I checked my rain gauge before it got dark (that's it in the picture...the frog with the umbrella). 4.3 inches officially at my house.
Ruth-glad we got our trade completed....the spiderwort are demolished. Luckily they are tough plants and they likely will be regrown and blooming again before frost.
langbr,we got the wind and rain,no hail, sorry you got hit so hard, you must be just south of me,we need the rain like we are getting right now, good slow soaking type, hope your yard recovers.
roots-I can't believe you missed the hail in KCK...not too far from me as I'm on the northern edge of Olathe at 119th St. I was worried when I got up this AM saw rain, but they say it will be a gentle soaking. I hope so....not sure my yard can handle even rain at this point.
Yup, roots! I'd say it qualifies.
LOL! girl we need to do coffee somewhere dry!
