Taking seeds through customs

Santa Clara, CA(Zone 9a)

We are going on a cruise next month (Washington, Canada to Alaska) and I know that I will come across seeds I'm going to want. Does anyone know if there will be a problem with seeds through customs? I would hate to have them taken away.

i've heard if you hide them in your dirty socks you will have no problems.

That maybe an idea, although in my DH's they might start growing, LOL

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Kathy, a friend of mine brought back seeds from their cruise. She didn't hide them. she just put them in a ziplock bag in her pocket. They had a drug sniffing dog there but since her seeds were not drugs there was not a problem!

I put them in empty medicine (rx) bottles.

And a friend puts them in her Kotex package...she says those customs inspectors have no interest in looking in there ;-))

Kathy, you can just declare them too, there should be a list online or from your USDA office of what you can and can't bring back. My friend brings seeds back all the time. Some must be cleaned and dried(like clivia seeds), but most she just has the name on the package and the inspectors just look at them and send them on thru.

Thanks everyone, I going to just declare them because I'm awful at lying. I don't think there will be too much of a problem.
