I have most of my plants in pots. Many of them are on a railing and even though I have saucers under them (which I empty after each rain) they still leave marks and mildew. There are far too many to buy those "feet" that hold them up off the surface. Does anyone have any ideas about what I could put on the saucers to hold them up off the surface? I was thinking about blobs of hot glue...they use it for spacers for artwork. Help! I'm sick of having to bleach my railings!
HELP....saucer/moisture woes...
Push pins work well with a dab of rubber cement on the heads to make it less slippery and will last for ages! Get the large ones for a bigger footed effect.
My mother fills her bromeliad saucers with small river rocks. Keeps the plants from sitting in water.
I found it easiest to buy the saucers that have "feet" molded in... available at Lowe's and Home Depot, and for not much more that cheap saucers. That's what I use in the house for my plants, and I never get any moldy, wet spots from them like I did with flat saucers. Saves my hardwood floors!
However, you should be able to use any kind of cheap spacer blocks at least a half inch thick. Maybe you could cut some from a stick of wood?
Wood would wet and mildew as well. someone suggested those 1/2 glass beads at craft stores...they look sort of like a blob of glue but are glass/plastic. I got a bag of them glued them on a saucer and I think it's going to work just great...and they come in all sizes. I got medium size and used 3 to a saucer.
When we get alot of rain; the pots with saucers, I just remove the saucers and turn the saucer upside down and sit the pot on it.
