Trapping a squirrel?

western Piedmont, NC(Zone 7a)

For several months, one or more squirrels have been visiting our bird feeders. The feeders are hung from the underside of our top deck, within sight of the kitchen windows, and we enjoy watching the various birds feed during the winter; and the hummers and baby birds during the spring and summer.

I realize I could replace the feeders with squirrel-proof models (if there really is such a thing), but the hummer feeder will be hard to squirrel-proof.

The squirrels come across the top of the deck, where I might be able to set a trap; so, I'm wondering if I can purchase (or make) a (catch and release) squirrel trap?

Any suggestions?

There was a discussion about this on Alpine-L; you can read it here: http://listserv.surfnet.nl/scripts/wa.exe?S2=alpine-l&q=squirrels&s=&f=&a=2003&b=

You can order a small animal live trap from Harbor Freight Tools at http://www.harborfreight.com. I have two "squirel proof" feeders, the sort that have shutters that cover the seed tray when a squirel gets on the perch. After several years of observation, I'd have to call them "squirel resistant".
