Belamcanda question

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Last night I was reading (yet another) gardening book, and it referenced two species of Belmancanda - chinensis and flabellata. From some preliminary searching, it appears B. flabellata produces yellow flowers, while B. chinensis produces the spotted "Leopard Lily" flowers. - is that accurate?

If so, can someone help me go through the B. chinensis images herehttp://plantsdatabase.com/go/41/ and decide if any should be moved to a separate entry? Thanks in advance...

Thanks, arsenic! Yes, of course they disagree - it keeps them gainfully employed *grin* (No cynicism here, lolol...) I'll check the links.

tiG, I thought the same thing - I'm hoping John will see this and lend his knowledge to the discussion...

John's here!

B. chinensis is the typical orange form (red spotted)
B. flabellata is equivalent to B. flava, and is the yellow form.

Azalea's photo is of B. flabellata/flava.

Jody's description is of X Pardancanda, not B.

Also, I must disagree with the scholars quoted. There are two species of B.

There have been numerous name changes over the years, as per the Brugmansia/Datura situation.

Before we cast anything in stone, it appears that Belamcanda is soon to be reclassified as an Iris.

Also up for renaming (again) is Pardanthopsis.

This means that X Pardancanda norrisii, now known as a bigeneric hybrid (Pardanthopsis x Belamcanda), will become Iris norrisii.

And no, I am not changing my name to Iris.
