vinca yellowing

Bayport, NY(Zone 6b)

I have a large patch of vinca that has been in place for over 30 years. Suddenly, this spring, several areas are turning yellow. Any ideas as to why and what I should do to rectify it? Thanks!

I've never experienced this problem, but I looked around a bit, and here's one possible culprit:

Oleander leaf scorch (OLS): http://www.cnr.berkeley.edu/xylella/oleander.html

If your leaves have dark veins showing, it may be a chlorosis (iron deficiency) problem, which can be temporarily alleviated by applying chelated iron. Longer-term, having a soil analysis and determining the soil's pH will tell you for sure what needs to be done to change the pH so that iron can be taken up by the plant's roots.

I have a hibiscus that was damaged when a palm tree was pruned. The new leaves a full but look like they are depleated of iron. I added chelated iron with no results. Can I do it again and can I continue its normal miracle grow feedings at the same time?

I have that problem from time to time with the vinca and I just use a good fertilizer and my plants leaves start greening up again.
Thank goodness I haven't had the problems that Calalily describes below.

I had this problem about 2 years ago. It wasn't until later that I finally put 2 + 2 together and figured out why the leaves turned yellow.
I had to run the neighbors boy dog out of my yard the day before and needless to say he got in a little watering before he went on out the fence!! Everything that he watered...was yellow the next day! The leaves died and I almost lost a few plants, but I just watered them really good with my water hose and pulled off the yellow leaves. Everything was fine about 1 week later. So just so everyone doesn't think right away that there is a disease taking over your plant....just keep the boy dogs OUT of the garden! LOL Sorry I just had to share this with ya'll.
