Jacob's Ladder

Flushing, MI(Zone 5b)

Hello, I am new to Dave's Garden. I am also new to growing Jacob's Ladder. I'd like to know if I should cut it back after the first Spring blooming so it will rebloom in the Fall or just leave it alone?

Hi, Vivilee! Welcome to Dave's Garden ;o)

I'm guessing you're referring to Polemonium (there are a few plants commonly called "Jacob's Ladder") - here's a link to confirm we're talking about the same plant: http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php?search_text=Polemonium

I've never cut mine back, but then again, I've never had tremendous success with this plant (grin) so maybe someone else can give you more advice.

So where are you located? You can add your city/state and zone in your "preferences" area, so it'll show up beneath your name. Here's the link to do that: http://davesgarden.com/locationprefs.php

Thank you, Terry. I had no idea there were so many Jacobs Ladders. Mine is a Bressingham Purple, and I am in zone 5-6. Every winter I lose at least one perrenial. This year I put in 4 plants that I've never tried before. I'm sure I'll be asking for more advice.

Wow, you have one of the new British inroductions, huh? http://www.blooms-online.com/newplants/bressingham.asp

If I add it to the Plants Database, would you care to add an image and/or comment about it? It sounds pretty and different, with the darker foliage.
