darius - would also love the recipe if you have time to e-mail it. I've also been wanting to grow my own garlic, glad to hear it won't be difficult. We just moved to Indiana from thomasville, nc which is very close to where you're at i believe. Tracy

hillbilliebo, and Louisa... I will try and emai the recipe tomorrow. Mother has been in the hospital again (3rd time in 3 weeks) and I am exhausted.

So sorry to hear about your mother will be praying for your family, no hurry on the recipe. Tracy

Oh Darius - I'm sorry to hear about your mum. I will offer prayers for her. Thank you for the recipe and yes, I did sow garlic this year but the rain has rotted it!!

Thanks for the recipe can't wait to try. Is elephant garlic the same as regular garlic that we eat? Just wondering as the local nursery has a bunch of it for 2 bulbs for 0.50 and didn't know if it was the same thing or not. Tracy

The 'huge' bulbs are not garlic in my book. They don't have the strong pungency of 'real' garlic!! :-)

I agree, Margaret!! Jo...another garlic lover

I agree... elephant garlic is NOT garlic! I usually grow 2-3 softnecks and 1-2 hardneck varieties, and look for the ones that both taste good and keep well.

We have had as much rain here, Louisa, but I have raised beds so not as much has rotted. However, having enough dry weather to paint the outside of the house has been a problem.

Glad I didn't get any of it then. I want to enjoy cooking with it. Tracy

Tracy, you can just buy garlic bulbs from the grocery store, separate them into individual cloves, and plant them. Be sure to put the pointed ends up, and plant them about 4-6" deep. Even if you do it now, you'll have full garlic bulbs by fall. When the tops yellow (like tulips and daffs), dig them, rinse them off, and let cure in dry shade for 2-3 weeks. Home-grown garlic, yummy!

There is nothing like it!!! No other smell to beat it - except my roast beef dinner!! lol!!

Brazil, IN(Zone 5a)

really? the ones from grocery store? who woulda thought? not me, i'll definately do that thanks so much for the info. Count me in on that roast beef dinner, do you! Sounds yummy! Tracy

I love the smell of a good roast! Unfortunately, my body doesn't digest beef well anymore so we seldom have it. Maybe once a year I do a really nice filet mignon, and a good chuck roast with veggies. Mostly we do fish and chicken and I'm about over chicken, too. May be becoming a vegetarian by taste, not choice, LOL.

vegetarian? I was watching rfd-tv last night with hubby and most americans eat 96lbs of beef/yr. So I guess louissa and I can split your share? LOL Tracy

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL. Yes, you may have almost all of my share of beef.... just leave me 1 good roast, and 2 nice filets!

Brazil, IN(Zone 5a)

hehehe (i'll be bigger than i already am!) but mmmm good. Tracy
