We're still kicking! *Smile!*

Just a note to let y'all know that Kenny and I are still alive and doing well! We've been VERY busy, so I haven't had time to get on here much. I've attached a pic of one thing that's keeping us busy ~ a brand new Jersey/Charolais calf we've named Chuck (as in Roast ;). I've been milking twice a day for this past week and finding it more enjoyable than I thought! We took our Jersey Belle in to the vet Thursday, got her shots, tests and such ~ barring any positive disease test results, we'll be able to start drinking the milk Monday. I'm SO excited!! I've missed fresh cow's milk ~ haven't had it since I was a kid. And ice cream made with REAL cream! I can feel my thighs growing as I type. *Giggle~ sort!*

And it'll really put the weight on Kenny, something he sorely needs. He's gained twenty pounds since he's been home from the hospital! YEEHAW! AND doing everything the doc says for him to do, except bed rest. ;) He just won't sit still for long. I'm able to get him to come in for a nap midday most days, but he's still got to be outside a lot even if it's just walking around. Atleast that means he's feeling great!

That is one adorable baby!

Wingnut sounds like you guys are doing great! I was wondering how you were doing with fattening up Skinny Kenny. You'll soon have to find him a new name! How's the non-smoking going?

Your Chuck (Roast) is gorgeous!!! Enjoy!

Glad to hear from you!

It is so good to see you post Linda and glad things are looking up for you both.

What a beautiful little calf. Thank you so much for posting this update -- you and Kenny have been on my mind a lot, and I'm glad to know that you're busy, busy, busy, but feeling fine. How wonderful to hear that Kenny is putting on weight! God bless you and Kenny and everyone near and dear to you.

Thanks everybody! :) Yep, we're busy, busy, busy ~ moved our little cabin back under the shade trees, building a porch on it, building a floor and "kitchen" in the milking parlor in the barn, evicting Kenny's pigs from my henhouse (long story...) and getting it ready for my new chooks. I've been wanting Buff Orpington chickens for a while now, so when Kenny saw some month-olds at a feed store a few weeks ago, he bought all 17 of them. The sweetheart. :) Here are some pics of the breed at Feathersite.com: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGK/Orps/BRKOrps.html They're the quintessential big, fat hen ~ SO pretty!

We're not doing so good on the no-smoking thing. :( We WILL quit if it takes us a year of trying! BUT, the good news is Kenny's doing GREAT on the no-drinking thing! He's even got it so firmly anchored in his head that he can't have it and that not drinking isn't that big of a deal for him that he told BigSis, Bro-in-Law and me the other day that if we wanted to have a few beers with our barbecue, it wouldn't bother him one bit. That sure makes me feel incredibly relieved because even if I never take a drink and neither does anyone else here, he'll have to be around reminders of it for the rest of his life ~ commercials, friends who drink, restaurants, etc. I can't describe the relief I have now that he has that attitude of "I can't have it, but it doesn't bother me". :)!

Gotta' go milk the cow...

What's curious to me is that anyone might actually want to drink alcohol around Kenny -- I can't even imagine enjoying a "buzz" around someone who has had a problem with it, it would seem inconsiderate at best, cruel at worst. Oh well, that's just me.

Between smoking and drinking, I think it's better to give up the drinking, since Kenny's liver and pancreas just can't handle it any longer. People who have never smoked are often unaware that smokers think about quitting all the time -- and someday, you will. One step at a time.

Yippeee!! I have been thinking of you a lot lately. Glad you two are doing so well. It does my heart good to hear that he has gained that weight and I am very sure you are extremely pleased with his progress also.

Ohhh Jersey milk, fresh, there isn't anything as good as that on this planet unless it is chocolate. :>) Love those Jersey cows and miss the milking too except when it is -10 or 110 or when I want to do something else besides milk and take care of it at that time. LOL

Great news, Linda........now that we can't call Kenny skinny.....let's think of a new nick for him......maybe something to do with racing??

Real treat, this thread. And a man as stubborn as Kenny, er, I mean as determined, will get there once he has made up his mind who's boss, him or the bottle. Knowing he has your support all the way is the key, Wing, I think you will agree with that. (Y'all wouldn't believe the way she loves that old boy!)

It sounds like you really have been having fun, although it was hard work. Keep it up, it must be good for you.
