I've never seen anything like this..please excuse photo

This is as close up as I can get. Bear with me while I try to describe this. On the Christmas berry leaf there are small black "dashes" for lack of a better word RIGHT on the leaf's edge. On the underside of the leaf below the black "dash" came a little pocket and from that came a small white fluffy thing that I do not know if it was alive or not. The white thing has stuck there like glue so I am led to believe it might have been an encasement. The black "dash" looks like it opened...and whatever came out came out between the top and bottom of the leaf as after a day or so the "dash" seemed to almost be a slit...RIGHT on the edge. Any ideas? This was the only leaf with this on it. Very strange...plus they were evenly spaced, four on each side!

glue and small fluffy reminds me of Cuckoo spit but as for the dashes...not sure!!

No I don't think so. The white is not like spittle. The black dashes look to be either where the insect entered or exited...below it is a pouchy like area..under the leaf sheath. The white is what was left and is almost feathery. VERY strange and no one has come up with an answer! Thanks for looking! And I enjoyed the link.

I really wish you could have seen th eleaf...on ONE only...little pockets with black at the top edge of the leaf almost like something was living in between the top of the leaf and the bottom of the leaf like top and bottom sheets. Then it seems the white was left..not the insect..when whatever it is left the pocket.
