According to the map I live in zone 4. I am considering planting a screening of various colored lilac buses as sort of a privacy fence. My main concern is where I can find various colored lilac bushes. I'm considering a red, white and blue effect. If I were landscape around these bushes how far out should I go with this. Can anyone help me with this.

wanting to plant lilac bushes
The thought of a lilac hedge sounds wonderful. I wish I could offer more support/advice but I was actually looking for some siting advice myself. Just wanted to let you know that I just purchased some very healthy, good sized 'Frederick Law Olmsted' (who happens to be a relative!) Lilacs for under $20 each at Home Depot. As much as I do not like to shop at these box stores I can't afford to go to the nurseries I adore all the time. Best of luck!
calinash, this is one of the very few lilac places i have found. I am suppose to get my order next week. they have a very large selection of many you don't find anywhere.
