Looking for lilac bush

I probably should have posted this in plant trading. DD wants a lilac bush so I told her to go to a nursery and buy a one gallon pot thinking that would be the cheapest way to go. She did go to a local nursery (in OH) and they wanted Thirty Dollars for a 1 gallon pot. Sheesh...I have a very small (about 6 inches) one that I got at the roundup last year which I will give her if nothing turns up here. I will be happy to pay you for a rooted cutting, small bush, etc., as well as the postage. She is looking for the old fashioned purple lilac and lives in southern OH. I appreciate your help and thank you so much!

I have lots of volunteers of a purple lilac I'd be glad to send. I think the lilac is a kind of lavender.

Tina...Thank you so much for your offer. Roshana, Louisa, and Lupinelover are all sending cuttings and I thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart. Tina, if Nancy (dd) happens to kill any of the cuttings she's getting, I'll email you for some more LOL...Thanks again to all of you for your wonderful generosity and kindness...Hugs to all

Oh mercy! I took some cuttings and they lasted about two wks or so then "moved on". I normally have good luck with cuttings, too.

Anyone have any idea what I may have done wrong? (I did keep them kinda hot in a mini-greenhouse a few nites...?) I'm about to take more cuttings, from new growth, and try again. Any suggestions?

(Sorry to take over, Vic...I WANT more lilacs!) (If I'm successful I'll also contribute...soon you'll be blessing the lilacs out!)

Know exactly what you mean Vic on the price. They are very proud of the potted lilacs down this way as well.

If anyone has extra cuttings I would love to have a couple cuttings; please. Willing to pay postage or whatever; just anme it.
The smell of lilacs are just out of this world.

'Shoe, I am having great success with root cuttings this year. I took them a few weeks ago, put the horizontal roots in a pot vertically, and they sprouted within a day or two :) Got some really neat varieties this way!!!! Just experimenting, you know? I also was able to propagate fothergilla minor, bayberry, and a weigela using this method. Experimentation is great! Now for some other things (viburnum, shrub mint, dogwoods, etc) Can't have too many shrubs...

Dad just lopped off Mom's lilac bush I have it all here in a bucket of water and have been taking cuttings (don't know if I'm doing it right) for 4 or 5 days and dipping in rootone. There's still plenty left and it's still real green anybody wants some let me know and i'll send to you if you tell me how to send it. Tracy
