I have an Athyrium filix-femina Victoriae and a Thelypteris decursive-pinnata that I have babied along for so long! They barely made it through last summer. I am in Florida and it gets HOT and HUMID! I know that they do not like warm breezes. This Spring and so far into almost summer here, they have really been strutting their stuff...coming out with a great burst of growth. I have them in 8" pots. Do you think I should bring them inside for the summer? I have an easterly window in a room where I don't keep the A/C too cool. What do you think? I'm just not ready to baby them all summer long again!
To bring ferns in for the summer or not??
Ferns like high humidity and air conditioning can dry them out faster than about anything! I would put them in the shadiest spot I could and mist them often during the hot weather. For areas where evaporative coolers are used they can thrive inside all summer but airconditioning is a big fern killer!
