Recently, one of my gardening friends told me that he had read somewhere that the plant Sabadilla was used to extract pyrethrum which was used to spray the plants as an insecticide. Anyone heard of this?
Sabadilla as insecticide??`
Howdy Dinu...
Sabadilla is a completely different insecticide from pyrethrum. Both are botanicals (coming from plants). As far as extracting the pyrethrin from the plant (Chrysanthemum) you can simply soak the flower heads in alcohol overnite then strain them out and dilute.
Sabadilla comes from seeds of a plant that doesn't come to mind right now...I want to say "shoenocallas" or maybe "schoencaulan" or something like that. (I guess a quick search would bring it up.)
