Does anyone know if adding ashes to our clay soil here in Ohio would be of any value?
Any use for ashes in Ohio clay soil?
I add ashes to my Ga red clay all the time. Our red clay is hard as a brick! and it does help. I usually do it in the veggie garden every year. We usually make a big burn pile in the garden over the fall and winter and then come spring I scatter all the ashes out. I guess some folks would say I have too many ashes in there, but being as I am the one tending the garden and I don't see any problems with it...then I think it ok for my garden.
Guess you'd have to just be your own judge as the amount you use.

Thanks, Mollybee :) I think I will add some ashes but maybe just to half of the garden to see the difference. I'll save the rest in case it's a magical additive!
:) Let us know soon
Try looking at these links:

Hope they help.

Great help, Adam ~ thanks!
I've got a huge supply of wood ash from our fireplace. I had hesitated to use it for fear the dogs would track it inside. But after reading the second link, I think I'll give it a try around the hostas. Maybe the slugs will look elsewhhere for their nightly snacks! Thanks for the info.
