I was feelin' a might bit low today
Since the ground was too wet to go out and play
So I sat down with a heavy sigh
Wishin' and woefully wondering WHY?
The worst weather happens on my days off?
Yes, it does! so please don't scoff!
When my Darling Spouse Whispered in my ear,
Come on with me and your mood will cheer.
He drove me into town for lunch
and we had a merry and carefree munch
Off to the garden center we went
where he loaded the van with a sweet earthy scent
Bags of manure and topsoil he stacked in
while I watched with a big silly grin
Enough to fill planters and top dress the beds
Now visions of plantings dance in my head.
Now if it stops raining and the ground dries a bit
And I have a day off to the garden I'll flit!
I was feelin a might low...
Aw so sweet, Zany.
Yep, That mans a keeper!
Ah, the sweet, sweet smell of manure (er, love)!
that sure perked me right up! LOL. Really, gave me my first smile all week! thanks
Yes Kell, nothin like a load of manure to make a woman know she is loved!
What a beautiful poem and what a GREAT DH you have...
Zany, I read this again and it gives me such a chuckle and to see the various responses, great one violabird, as I can especially understand the frustration about the rain as that is all we are seeing here of late. Wishing you a rainfree day off soon, Joann
What a great poem. It hit home as I have been off the last few days to plant and it keeps raining, but I don't care anymore. This morning I went out and planted anyway. Thanks for the poem.
It is still raining here and looks like it will continue for msot of the week. We have had rain/sun/rain/hail/rain/thunder so far in the last hour. The ground is saturated and so muddy I am afraid it is impossible to dig in the puddles. But there is a lovely pile of top soil and manure sitting on the patio just waiting for a chance to be put to good use. I just hope this weather front passes by Saturday so it can dry out a bit by my day off on Monday!
Looks like all of us out on the west coast are getting dumped on.
Now they are showing wet and rainy through Tuesday :~(
Now THAT woman has her priorities straight! :)
They say, "diamonds are a girl's best friend," but we know otherwise. On my 25th anniversary, my DH asked me what I wanted (expecting something exotic). He was surprised by my one-word answer: TOP-SOIL!!!
lol @ Sweet Pea
Joann, sorry to say that NOT all West Coast personel is getting wet. You forgot about us Southerners, we are still considered desert down here, that's why we don't get that much rain...and you get it all up there. It was supposed to rain this afternoon into the night...but nooooo, it just went East and it was blue skies all day and clear this evening. We just can't believe our weatherpeople any more!!!
Zany, that would have been a great gift to me also, especially since it came from your DH without asking for it!!
Donna
SoCal, when I lived down there I missed the rain so much that when it did rain I would sit at the window or on the porch and watch it so I wouldn't miss a drop! That is why I usually don't mind the rain so long as it doesn.t flood the rivers but this time of year we should get scattered showers
and sunshine and rainbows NOT a dusting of snow at 2000 ft.,hail and rain and lightning! This should be gardening weather time not fluffy robes and hot chocolate time!
It rained here all day yesterday and I LOVED it. We get very little rain. it is still cloudy today but the weather man said maybe a shower. I won't get much done in the garden tho. Yesterday had to drive the 30 miles to Dr. to have him check out my eye that had cataract removed. Everything fine but can't see any better yet. Today again I have to drive the 30 miles (that is one way) to take my little dog to be clipped, etc. that takes 2 hours as she does a very complete job on her . I must go eat breakfast and feed my birds. Nice day to all of you. Donna
Weathermen always lie. *giggle*
I would love a few days of rain. Give me an excuse to get caught up on my indoor tasks!
Well so far this one has been pretty accurate! Today it rained most of the day with hail mixed in and snow on the mountains down to about 1500 feet! That is not unusual for February and not too suprising in March but this is the end of April and it is definately not normal! But the sun did peek out between the clouds long enough to taunt me for a few minutes and made a rainboe or two befor it hid again!
Loved the poem Zany and loved the man who knows how to love his woman!! Give me manure over diamonds any day!! Rain here too - very wet and more to come. Azaleas waiting to be planted and containers too. Might have to wait until my return to Chicago since it's going to be the same scenario today and more rain next week. I will take it and glady when I think of the horrible drought we had last year. This has been a good Spring, even my daffodils are still blooming and that's a first!! Dogwoods are also enjoying having wet feet and continuing their wonderful display for longer than usual so I'm definitely not complaining.
Margaret, Glad to hear you are getting rain there where it is needed. I noticed the rivers are starting to rise again here but not enough to be a problem...yet!
We have passed our "average" rainfall for this year and set a 100 year record for April with rain predicted for the rest of the week yet to spike up the totals for the month still more.
I have plenty of work to do here inside to keep me busy but I sould rather be outside! I couldn't stand the ratty drapery that was here so I ordered some and they came in today. It will take me forever to steam the fold creases out of them from the way the packed them for shipping but they will make this place look and feel a lot better once they are up.
How is your place coming along? Did you get the window coverings and adjacent door area figured out to your liking?
