Rootdoctor, after it messes up, you have to restart to get to any of the MSN sites. It will tell you that "server is too busy", that problem stopped after I deleted all temp files and defraged.
I hadn't had anymore trouble since the other night till I followed Snow's link to Angies pic, then it started again. I guess I'll set the computer to defrag and go pull some weeds in my daylily bed!

Dave; have you changed the "referrer settings"?

Before when you looked at Google's cache of a DG-page; I am pretty certain you'd get a default picture with the text "Image hosted by Dave's Garden"; now they turn up as broken.

Also; I get a 403 error when I try to view an image: http://davesgarden.com/pics/ecobioangie_1050721443_685_tn.jpg

Is my memory failing; or have you changed anything?

:) B

The problem seems to occur after trying to look at a particular member's threads, not just Bismark, but all her other one's too.

I've been asking Dave to investigate this, but as yet no reply. As I said before, I'm sure it's not intentional, but there must be something strange going on for it all to be traceable back to one member's posts, as seems to be the case

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I am sure it is not the members fault! Her pics look wonderful on other browsers. But it may be something to do with how her photos are formatted here that causes the glitch to happen.

If the problem presented itself to other than IE Dave would address it but since it only happens with IE users he says it is our problem and not his.

So we seem to be on our own to deal with it. So let's see what other common denominators there are

1. it only happens when on DG but then affects all sites until a reboot is done.

2. it only occurs when there is a photo or thumbnail from a single source on the page (sorry Echo, not blaming you here!)

3. it only affects those of us using IE

ok, that is what is known so far now what else do we all have in common that could be affected?

Operating system? I use ME

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Mine's 98SE

But it still will affect potential members Zany
I think for his own sake he should be at least looking into it a little further
It could get to a point where many of us will not wish to renew our membership

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I agree, but if he has not got the capability to view the problem there is no way for him to address it. One thing for certain, I don't think he would work on it on Easter Sunday even if he could, would or wanted to!

But I am beginning to think that it is a problem only he could address and that we will have to live with it or not as we choose.

Thanks for the info Cala,I'm going to Defrag.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

To avoid the problem posts is going to be my way out

I agree that noone would expect Dave to work on this on Easter Sunday - or any other special time
Thanks for discussing it Zany - it really helps to talk these things through

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Well. I updated my IE and it made no difference. So that is not it...

Philomel, the problem is that the affected posts are everywhere, and may not even originate by the post that hangs it up.

Zany, the problem affects people who do not view particular members' photos. It was happening to me before looking at a specific photo, and Cala never viewed the photo.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Oh well, I'll see how often I get the problem.

Have you got IE 6 now? How do you find it? Is it worth doing or isn't there a lot of difference?
I've updated my existing as far as it can be.

This no photos thing has only happened to me twice so far - each time when I tried to open one of angie's photos. I thought if I avoided doing that I might be OK....

Whiterose, it is not just a single photo, it is almost every thread page that contains a photo from one subscriber. If you make note of the threads when the trouble occurs you will see the pattern emerge. The photo may not even be at the beginning of the thread but added to it way down. In that case some of the pics on the page will load until the problem photo is reached and the system will fail to load it. So far I have not seen a single affected thread that did not contain a photo that can be seen trying to load but failing.

Philomel, it's been happening to me for quite awhile, much prior to this member uploading any photos. I use IE 5 for Mac, as 6 is reputedly very buggy (and obviously 5 is, too!).

Thanks, Zany, I'll check that out.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Whiterose, could you copy and paste the thread address where this happens ? As well as the name of the thread you viewed immediatly befor you noticed the problem?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Thanks whiterose - I was actually answering Zany's post, you must have posted in the meanwhile :)
But thanks, you've confirmed what I had heard about IE 6, so I'll continue to avoid it

Zany, it's been an ongoing and intermittent problem for about two weeks. my.yahoo.com is my homepage, and DG is bookmarked; I do my e-mail from Yahoo, then go to DG, and sometimes the logo is there, and sometimes it isn't (and sometimes only half of it loads); some of the thumbnails are present, and some aren't (all at the same time). If I click on the white square where a thumbnail should be, the larger image loads, and when I then use my "back" button, the thumbnail is present. I have not been able to detect any particular pattern; the problem seems worse on IE, but it also happens on Netscape. Also, on both browsers (much worse on IE), loading time slows to a crawl and then picks back up again a few hours later.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Whiterose that seems to be a different problem you are experiencing. The symptoms do not match what is happening to some of us. It could still be related but I don't know! When I click where the thumbnail is supposed to be it will not bring up the full picture or return to any other page and load photos. even previously viewed photos that are cached from moments befor will not reload until I reboot.

Last night I tried just leaving it on a page that was failing to load (said it had 5 items remaining to load) and went to bed. when I woke up it was still sitting there trying in vain to load those 5 items. And I still had to reboot to see any images on line or off with the exception of my home page.

I Defragged,disc cleaned,and restored back a week,WORKED!Thanks Cala!hope everyone else gets going.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

root, have you tried it on any of the problem threads yet? Cause I did all that and it still happens :~(

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Yes just went and tried the Bismark,no photos there for me and logo disappeared then too, backed out came back, photos came back,

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

This is really strange, but I haven't had any of the problems that everyone is speaking about although I have IE too. I've looked at the links mentioned, went directly to one of the threads itself and still haven't had any problems.

If indeed it is IE, maybe everyone having a problem can post which version being used and get a general consensus to see if it is related to a fluke in the same IE version? This may be one way to narrow down a possible problem.

I must admit I am a computer slug - if it works fine for me I feel there's no reason to upgrade. I'm still using IE 5.0 and Windows 98.

Zany -- yes, I see, that does sound like a different problem (or a more serious and aggravating variant of the same one).

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

XP IE v.6
and it's only the problem threads or if those thumbnails are in that forum that I have problems. I've tried it over 50 times and it is always the same cause and effect.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Well, Easter or not, I have to get to work. The power plant closes for no holidays!

So I sign off till tonight when hopefully my nerves will be settled down and all anger has been released over this vexing and enigmatical problem!

If I am really lucky one of you wonderful folks out there will have it solved before I return!

Happy Holiday to all who are observing it and a Good day to the rest of you as well!

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

For me it happens with any thread that has a picture in it, and definitely when I go to the Plaants Database. No problem with Netscape though.
