Castor Bean Plant

If castor bean plants protect a garden from pocket gopehers how large an area does it protect. I usually plant 2 or 3 every year (I think they are beautiful) but if they will protect my flower gardens from pocket gophers/voles I will plant them in all my flower gardens but I need to know how many sq ft they protect so I know how many to plant. Any help would be greatly appreciated as they are a big problem here--zone 6 PA

They don't seem to influence the moles/voles in my neighborhood. Nothing does *sigh*.
