Dividing Perennials

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

This chore is endless! Just when I thought I had certain ones under control last spring, this spring some of them have doubled what they were before last spring!

Not really complaining, but when does it end? Yeah, I know; it doesn't. A garden is never finished. That is the best part :)

For those of you who are interested, I should have my list of plants to share finished this weekend. Gonna have some real good ones, too ;D

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll be looking forward to it. Hope they will be as happy elsewhere as they sound like they are under your gentle care!

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

I'll be watching for your list.

Maxine

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Always interested here for a trade.

Oh, I can't WAIT to see your list!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oooooh, and we live nearby you! :D

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Ok if it's hardy for you it will be for me too. I will have to take a peek at the list. lol

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

O goood!!!! I can't wait to see that list! I have a new bed that needs filling in with perennials! Are you going to offer these for Postage by any chance??

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

OK, gang, here is a mostly complete list. Before I do any final sending, I want everyone to look through it again, and check out what else has been added.

I will probably be able to divide a couple more on Saturday, and hopefully I can spend Sunday preparing these for sending on Monday.

Yep, for subscribers I will do these for postage, except for a couple of extra-special very rare plants: those are going to go to someone who can offer me something very high on my lust list.

And, a couple people are being privately e-mailed to get first refusal for a few of these. So this isn't by any means a complete list.

If you want more info about any of these plants, please first check the PDB: most of them are well documented. Only the mums aren't specifically described since I have no clue what cultivar they are. All are hardy here, a couple are marginally hardy for me in zone 6, would do better in 6b or 7.

Anyone coming to the Perennial Sale on 4/11 or 4/12, let me know and I will just keep them potted up for you.

Ornamental Grasses:

Stipa 'Angel Hair' -- z6 or higher. 5 extras
Blue Fescue 3 extras
Japanese Blood Grass z6 or higher 2 extras
Blue-eyed Grass not a true grass, but better here. 5 extras
Northern Sea Oats 3 extras

Perennials:

Phlox paniculata: can't tell what color clumps are until they bloom: I have light pink, dark pink, bi-color pink, pink w/red eyes, and white. Could be any of the above. 5 extras

Hardy geranium. Labelled Wargrave Pink, but wrong. Possibly Boikova. 5 extras

Chrysanthemum: very long bloom season, late summer through late autumn. Color changes from apricot with yellow highlights through darker orange and finishes purple with orange highlights. 3 extras

Chrysanthemum: very late bloomer, beginning Halloween for me through Christmas. Very cold tolerant blooms. Small, extra-tall, needs frequent pinching. Either starts purple and ends pink or starts pink and ends purple (I can never remember!) 4 extra

Coral Bells: Purple Palace. Outstanding clone, color is maintained almost all summer. Very floriferous, too. 7 extras

Coral Bells: 'Splendins' Very floriferous, tall red flower spikes from late spring through mid summer, even longer if deadheaded. 5 extras

Rue: called the herb of grace. Steely blue foliage, trifoliate. Sub-shrub that retains its spent leaves all winter, becomes woody with age. Forgettable yellow flowers in early summer. Handle foliage with care: it can cause photosensitive problems. Supposed to be deer-resistant. 4 extras

Daylily -- 3 unknowns, got separated from their clumps last fall when my brother dug them up. Unsure what variety, color. Very possibly red with dark throats, or small orange blooms. Or could be large apricot blooms. For the adventurous (or desperate) only!

Columbine seedlings -- absolutely no clue what they may turn out to be. But I have never seen an ugly one :) 4 extras

Columbine 'Nora Barlow' -- double pink flowers, grows very tall, lives a long time. 2 extras

Russian Sage very tall growing variety. 2 offers

Elephant ear -- yes, the regular green one. Either a medium sized or a couple small sized per offer. 3 extras

Spiderwort - magenta. unlimited extras.

Culver's Root - 1 extra

liripe -- 2 extras

Hostas -- several varieties. They are all named cultivars, but the nametags are long gone. Most are green with white variegations, fairly big-growing. Also a smallish one that emerges green with yellow margins, slowly changes to blue with green margins. Heart-shaped leaves. Many extras, unsure how many yet. I would love to swap for other varieties if possible, especially 'Big Daddy' or 'Blue Cadet'. But I am not fussy, just a collector.

Shrubs:

spirea, labeled 'Gold Mound' but wrong. Grows at least 5' high and across, but the foliage is the same, emerges pink and golden and apricot, then changes to green. Pink flowers. This one is very big, so should go to someone who can pick it up.

Purple smokebush: volunteer seedlings, 1 year old. Retained their color all summer, but that may not continue to hold true as they mature. 1 extra

Groundcovers

Mother of Thyme
Lemon Thyme
Prostrate Thyme
Alpine Skullcap
Wild Ginger
Lily of the Valley
Mazus reptans
Phlox subulata
Lamium 'Chequers'

Herbs:

Monarda labeled 'Marshall Scarlet' but wrong. More of a brown-red flower. Good at resisting mildew. 4 extras

Lemon Balm: infinite amount for anyone who wants it

Red Valerian (Jupiter's Beard) -- 1 extra

Ornamental flowering oregano -- purple flowers most of the summer, spreading. 2 extras

Now for the jewels of my harvest:

For everyone who wants and cannot grow the tall goatsbeard, I have dwarf goatsbeard, Aruncus aethusifolius. One extra

Astilbe cheninsis 'Pumila' low spreading, tolerates dry conditions well. Flowers late. 2 extras

Mollis alpina: alpine lady's mantle. Tiny foliage, very dwarf. Gorgeous! 1 extra

Violet 'Dancing Geisha'. 1 extra

No, I won't publish my lust list here, those who know me know what will tempt me! LOL

OK, perennials for shade! Especially natives. Tender bulbs, especially aroids. Cardiocrinum. Very high on my lust list is something nobody has been willing to dig for me: skunk cabbage. I have the perfect place for it, but can't get it! Nobody will dig it for me. And another real stinky plant I would adore (I think) is Cashmere rose. Those who live in the south know what it is, I don't think it is hardy here, but I may not want it to be!

Keep your eyes peeled for new additions in a few days...

edited to add a couple more things that I have and would LOVE

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Ooooh, any chance for some blood grass and a smoke bush seedling? (Putting on my thinking cap for things that might tempt you ;o)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

if no one has asked for the Aruncus aethusifolius and I could meet your trade price, I would just love to adopt it.

Hobart, IN(Zone 5a)

If you still have phlox paniculata, hardy geranium, and alpine skullcap I'd love a start of each, just let me know how much postage is. Thanks!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Lily of the Valley for me if it's still available :) Will look harder for your wants in exchange, but not sure what I can get...

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Looks like I'm LATE!!!
If you have a monarda left, I would like one very much(ginning like the Cheshire cat) and has anyone claimed the violet "Dancing Geisha"??? I know what you want and will be digging a rosa mundi out for you as soon as I'm allowed to dig again.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

I'll pass on the flowers as I have most of what you offered.
Thanks so much for going to all your trouble.

A gardening friend, Maxine

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I am keeping a list of everyone who has requested so far; I am continuing to add to it, so keep checking! I will do the final tallying on Sunday, and let everyone know if I can't do a request.

So far, I have everything available you all have asked for, except the smoke bushes. I only have 2 and 4 people so far have asked. Uh-oh. I will see if I can find any more volunteer seedlings out there. Still finding surprises!

Adding a couple more now, go back and check the list!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Do you have any columbines or coral bells left?
Bob

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi, if not too late, I'd sure like

Boikova Geranium
Spiderwort
Stipa Angel hair

Pretty, pretty please?

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

HI! I think I might have some perennial plants for your shady border! I'll e-mail you with the details!

I would love to trade!

I would love any left of:

Hardy Geranium, blue fescue, any of your phlox!, Coral Bells 'Splendens' Columbine 'Nora Barlow', Mollis alpina 'Alpine Lady's Mantle', Spiderwort - magenta, Northern Sea Oats, Mazus reptans, phlox subulata, lamium Chequers.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I think I was one of the laggards in asking for the Smokebush, so if you are out don't worry about it ;o) Thanks so much for sharing!!!!

Hobart, IN(Zone 5a)

One of those magenta spiderworts sure would look pretty next to my lavender colored one if it's still available. Thanks a bunch!

I am interested in lemon balm, ornamental flowering oregano, lemon thyme, rue, and russian sage.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I will make the cutoff tomorrow (Sunday) at 11 am. So far, only the purple smokebush is over-called for, but today was too cold to go looking for more volunteers, so I am still unsure whether I can fill all those requests.

Everyone, please e-mail me your addresses if you are not on Gardenwife's registry list -- I am, so that makes it easier. I am going to do my absolute best to get all these ready and to the post office by Monday afternoon. *whew*

The violet has been spoken for!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

What a job, lupinelover! Please don't send mine. I can just get on Friday in Columbus perhaps?

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Morph, absolutely! And that way you can get 10 lbs worth of extras!

Are you able to come? The last I heard, you weren't positive about a babysitter. Got one? Of course, if you would like to come tomorrow, also, you can help prepare them for shipment??? LOL

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

OK, printing all this out now, and compiling my lists, and preparing for shipping.

I will e-mail everyone confirmation tomorrow, along with postage prices.

For today only, I have lowered (way, way down) my e-mail security settings, so everyone should be able to contact me. They were so high for a while, a lot of people couldn't get through. Those who want to get through, you should be able to today. I will put all of you on my 'safe list'. I will raise them up way high again tomorrow morning.

Just curious, those who haven't been able to get through, do you get a reject message? Or just nothing?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Lupi? Going thru Dave's would we know if it didn't go thru? Didya get mine?

Hobart, IN(Zone 5a)

I sent one yesterday and again just now. Hope it gets through.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Yes, Viola, I did get yours; I will send confirmations tomorrow. I have gotten mail from everyone (so far) except Morph, Adam and Datdog. I don't know if they have tried before or will try again to write, but I hope so! Trying to enlarge my list to include people, but I have a very complicated filtering system set up; I use 4 different programs! Bound to be glitches. That is why I am curious to hear if people get sent confirmations or reject notices from their own managers; it might help me to better fine-tune my system.

I hate spam!!!!!!! And spy-ware!!!!!!!!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Sorry, Lupine. I am on GW's list so I didn't think you'd need my addy separately. I think Friday will be a go for me since I was thinking Saturday was the first day DeMonye's was open. I'll send my addy separately now :)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Root, I have volunteer columbine, so can't tell you what they will be. I think I have Palace Purple coral bells, but haven't looked. I do have other coral bells. When i can email I will let you know. Hopefully the ISP guy will get home tomorrow and fix the problem. Donna

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Drat - I missed all this!! But thanks for your email Kathy!! :-)

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Louisa, you have mail :)
