Joy, Sweeet Joy!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Would y'all believe I spent the morning digging my new Tropical bed, sorting and planting. Temps in the high 50's at night and mid to high 70's in the day.....and this and some rain will continue for a week!! I'm so excited, I almost feel like making my bed outside tonight, I said almost.

OK,what is that one????
I'm in love!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

What more could you ask for, Eyes! Warm, but moderate temps to plant, a nice cool rest at night, and a little rain to wash it all down... you're going to spoil those little babies!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

which one is that eyes, it's beautiful!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

calling for snow here tonight!!! :P

TIS TAR SEASON me thinks!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

We're having sunny cold days with high winds here. The temp is probably around 30 degrees now, and will dip down into the teens tonight. I wish we had some snow on the ground to mulch my poor plants! Maybe we should all head down to visit Eyes and help her dig!

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Its looks like a Yellow Canna to me.

Lovely that you all going to summer.....I'm starting to feel we're heading to winter, Bbrrrrrrrr!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

That CC and tiG is "Kansas City". When it turned out that Stuttgart couldn't take the sun, the hybridizers came up with this one........alleluhia it will!! A little pricey now, but give it a year or two, and they will be everywhere! Yeah, Weezie, y'all grab your shovels and come on down and help me.......remember I've got everything accounted for, so no sneaking, ya hear!

Most of those tropicals are safe around me, Eyes. I'd have to grow them in the bathtub with a grow light!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

That's a beauty "eyes"! I'd love to come and help, you're new bed sounds great (as does your weather!!).....but it's a long way across the pond :(

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

How's about I build you a little raft, Phil? One day you will make it across the pond, I just know it....and bring Mark with you!

EYES, I like the name of this one,LOL,I have been tempted to look this guy/gal up,it is across the river, but not far.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Very pretty! And that baby is up and blooming inspite of ya'll cold snap ya'll had a few wks back? Mercy!

Didn't realize some canna were sensitive to sun, I was getting ready to plant mine in full sun in the garden area. Guess I better figger this out a bit more closely.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I didn't either eyes. How much light can Stuttgart take?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Not more than 4 hours of morning sun, tiG. It burns very easily. Root, if you go across the river, grab some more for me too.....that $25.00 a pop hurts!

4 inches of snow this morning - makes ya REAL grumpy... but did see a flock of red winged blackbirds at the feeder- a sure sign of spring!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Sarv.........go to the greenhouse or basement and turn on a birght light and repeat after me.......Spring, Spring Spring!! At any rate start some seeds and keep a song in your heart!

Thanks "eyes" - that raft sounds an excellent idea.
You'll have to freight it across in this direction though
........oh, better not make it too 'little' though - make sure it's big enough for two, just in case.......

I'm just shaking my head here this morning. After that very mild winter we had, then the early warm melt off, we've been having a windy cold spell. I woke up this morning to 5 degrees F. out there and now snow cover on the plants. I have crocus open in the south bed. There are hundreds of first year perennials out there that may have decided it would be easier to be compost than a plant... oh, well, spring has to get here soon!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

5F!!!!! FFFFreezing!!!!!
Aaw Weez do hope it warms up for you soon!

Hope your perennials make it

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I guess I shouldn't complain, since it is not really spring here yet, but ordinarily, we're getting snow or rain. The fact that all my mulch was long since washed away means the plants are exposed, and they had begun to begin their spring growth due to the unseasonably warm weather. Consequently, I'm planting lots of seeds this spring, since I can't count on the others wintering over. If they all survive, I'll have to rent a lot to put them on!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Got mine today also. I'm really surprised at what nice size tubers they send, they are HUGE. The only other place I've ordered cannas from was Brent & Beckys bulbs, they were know where near as nice as the ones from horn.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

It's always so much more difficult when the conditions are different to the expected. You can plan and cope with the way things usually go, but when nature decides to have a shake up and turn around it's hard to know the best line of defence. Mulch in the form of snow would usually be helping you, but it's all topsy turvy this year in many places

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

These tropicals are always so tempting, but for every mild winter we have, there is likely to be an unpredictable one in the wings. I take less chances these days on marginal plants, since I have too many to haul indoors or treat specially over the winter. However, when Eyes talks of her nice tropical garden, I do wish for a solarium with a hot tub!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yes, I have a problem looking after the borderline hardy plants here. Every year I get sucked in by some beauty or other. At the moment I have gingers in my spare room and pelargoniums almost everywhere lol

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

My pelargoniums are in a friends boiler shack... about 20 of them!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

That conjures up a lovely picture in my head lol.
I forgot to mention my echeverias and various other oddities scattered around waiting for the sunshine (in England - I must be mad!)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Yes, hope springs eternal, doesn't it, Phil! While Eyes is protecting tropicals from the heat, I'll be growing shady plants out in what passes for 'full sun' around here!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Weezy, tell DH that's what you want for Christmas next year, and then I can share with you! Right about now my muscles are screaming hot tub!!

"eyes"

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I'll just bet they are, Eyes! I keep telling DH we can hook up the shop vac hose to the exhaust and stick the hose in the old claw foot tub... that's almost a hot tub with jets, isn't it?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

ROFLMBO...............almost Weezy, at least it would qualify as a Redneck Hot Tub!

"eyes"

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Sorta on a par with droppin' hot rocks down the outhouse hole for a sauna, eh, Eyes!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

LOL Weez! As Shoe would say "You ain't right"
....but what wonderful creativity!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Yeah..........but we're sure glad we got ya!! LOL.

We have water everywhere here! It's been in the 50's and 60's the past two days and we had lots of snow that's melting very, very fast. That's creating some problems with country roads washing out and such, but it's so much like spring here! It does wonders to lift the spirits. I hope it stays, but we could get another blast of winter before all is said and done.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I know Joan..........bless your hearts up there in the North. Today was another blissful day, I finished up two of the Tropical Beds, and planted Caladiums and Daylily in the front........tired, but a very rewarding tired. Now if I could just find the body of a 20 year old out there!
