Flower show too big for it's britches...

...Title should read too BIG for it's britches...

The fire marshall turned us away from the Portland flower show ... twice yesterday. What a disappointment. I guess our little Maine show has gotten too big and is attracting a record crowd this year. We never did get to see it.

Oh dear what a bummer! Sorry to hear that.

Oh well. I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. I'm not a big fan of the show but I feel bad for those that traveled to see it. We sure could have used a dose of spring to take the edge off of this bitter cold winter.

Oh Poppysue that is so sad. You're right, it would have done wonders for making you feel better. Is it because of the recent fires with crowds? Are all the firemen nervous in crowded areas now do you think? I mean heck, if you're going to have a flower show for crying out loud, you're obviously going to have crowd. I hope you get to go to the next one and I hope it warms up for you real soon.

It sounds like the show will be moving to larger quarters and/or opening for longer days if the crowds are that large! That could mean a bigger and better show next year! This years crowds may have been a real suprise to the planners if last years turnout was much smaller. Sorry you couldn't get in though but the vendors must be ecstatic!

It seems that there are many places being watched concerning overcrowding. This was in our local newspaper this morning. http://www2.ocregister.com/ocrweb/ocr/article.do?id=28893§ion=LOCAL&subsection=LOCAL&year=2003&month=3&day=8

Sue, I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't attend. I know that I would sure be dissapointed if I couldn't get in.

We also had a Grand Opening of a new Kohls department store yesterday. This store is new for our area and I had to check it out like so many others did. Wow, the place was packed..there must have been hundreds of people in there and you couldn't even move. I walked around just to see what they had and then left very quickly. All I could think of was trying to get out of that crowd if there was a fire. I guess that nite club fire made a big impression on me.

Don't you hate that Sue............ya know what....I think just going through the Database and surfing the net for gardens sure does help with the winter blahs! Just get out the pics of your garden, and turn that imagination on!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Ours last year was a dissapointment,I usually come out of there loaded with plants, last year I only spent 100 bucks....mostly orchids.....
Sorry you couldn't get in,Sue,I'm going to ours next weekend, even if I wasn't happy with it last year I need to see all the flowers and green growing things.....

Maybe you could write to someone to see if next years can be moved to a larger facility.I go to mine about an hour before it opens to wait in line to get in....They split ours up into 2 buildings because it got so big ,but it is a House and Garden show......so theres lots of house stuff that I never even look at....

I didn't get to go to the Northwest Garden Show in Seattle this year. I do really enjoy going but entails driving 6 hours or a bus tour, and i couldn't find time this year. it is really crowded. They have enlarged the space a couple of years ago. There isn't another garden show much nearer. Donna
