Mold starting on rootsHelp!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

I did a stupid thing--thought my ginger roots were dry and stored them in a trash bag. Guess what--mold starting--now what can I do?

You might try rinsing them in a water/bleach solution like one would do iris then spread them out to dry. If all else fails, dust them with a fungicide. If anything is terribly smushy or rotted, I would cut it off.

Badseed sounds right on track. The ratio of bleach to water would be 1 part bleach to 10 parts water.

Bless you, can't wait to plant these!

Viola, also, when the bleach/water is dry, dust them with sulphur. The bleach will kill all existing mold, but sometimes it isn't effective against mold spores: the sulphur hangs out for a few weeks, and kills all the spores as they germinate after the rhizomes are planted :) Also it is much less toxic to people than most commercial fungicides. It is a chemical, but a chemical even us organics people accept :)
