last fall and thru the winter something kept digging and eating in this bed. so now i have surounded it in wire so the berries will be safe, i built this 3 tier bed 2 yrsa ago it even has a built in sprinkler like the ones you can order but it cost a lot less and it was so much fun doing it.

janet, i have a few questions please lol. can you explain to me how you built it. is that fence in the beds or around it? i showed dh your picture and he is interested in it too. we went to an ag. meeting and he found out we can actually make some money growing fruits and veggis he is excited lol life is good.

the white sides are made of scraps of vinyl siding. before filling with dirt i ran the waterline thru the bottom layer and up and attached a pop up sprinkler head. the middle section extends thru the dirt all the way to the ground. as does the other two pieces. i fill each section half way with leaves and compost and then top soil. i took wire fencing and sat it on the bottom layer and ran the strips of wood thru it into the dirt. i am tall enough that i can reach over the fence to pick the berries except for the top layer. this holds 50 plants.

Janet, I built one similar to yours, but I used heavy vinyl edging. It had a lip around it that kept slugs out! Yippee!!!!! Unfortunately it was in a place that made it impossible to grow them for the "back half" of the circle, so I dismantled it. Mine cost about $5 to build, and after I took it apart, I used the edging in other places :)
