We are fairly new to the New Bern, NC area (zone8) and gardening. It gets hot, hot and humid here end of May-Sept. Last year, my veggie garden got real stressed with only 6 hrs direct sun daily, even with daily water, lots and lots of mulch and veggies that called for 6-8 hrs full sun. Should I put them in a spot where they will only get about 4 hrs of sun daily or am I doing something wrong? THX!
How much sun?

pmouotz, what were you growing? Some plants (tomatoes, especially) will stop producing in the heat of summer, but if you keep them mulched and watered, they'll give you a second flush of fruit at the end of the season.
Other vegetables (lettuce, peas, cabbage, broccoli, etc.) aren't cut out for hot summer weather, period. You've gotta get 'em in early enough to harvest before they bolt (send up flower stalks and become inedible.)
Most vegetables really do need at least 6 hours of sunlight every day. But the timing of when you plant them (and what you can grow in your climate) can vary.
