getting ready to plant potatoes and...............

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

i will be planting sugar snaps on the 14th and potatoes and onions, beets, garlic on the 20th of this month. I can hardly wait. My maples are already blooming and so spring is near. this year i am planting with the almanac and see if i get a better crop from it. what the heck nothing ventured nothing gained. how about all of you. do you plant with the almanac?

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

today i planted a 50 ft row of sugar snap peas and a 50 ft row of white onions. boy am i already paying for it. my leg is giving me a fit but it is worth the pain to hae the fun i had. later today it is to the greenhouse to do some planting and transplanting.in a few days potatoes willbe going in.

hows your garden at this time. frozen or workable?

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Definitely not workable but not really frozen either. It rained and snowed all day, more comming, we need the moisture as we are in a drought, but I wanna play in the dirt! I have never planted by the almanac, I just put things in when it seems warm enough and I have time.

I'm SO ENVIOUS....! YES, I have been following the Farmer's Almanac....for planting (NOT YET), for weather....guess what's forecasted for tomorrow????? SNOW, SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW, which will probably end by Monday....it's suppose to be a "biggie"!

We don't plant our cold weather crops for at least another month, usually on St. Patrick's Day! Does planting veggie seeds indoors count??? If so, I'm gonna start some of my tomato and eggplant seeds in about 2 weeks, so that in approximately 6-8 weeks time, they'll be ready to transplant into the garden.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I also plant my spring veggie garden on St. Patrick's Day (unless it is pouring rain all day). He has never let me down so far!!! A Valentine Day veggie garden would probably be pushing it a little too much, tho.

JCF, I envy your early spring! And all the fun you had out there planting in it.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

We've got a bit of a wait in SouthCentral Alaska. I'll start my Super Sugar Snap peas in paper pots indoors about 3 weeks before last frost (June 1). We'll head up to the Mat-Valley in mid May to pick up seed potatoes, then start planting the barrels as soon as the soil is workable. This has been such a warm winter that we just may get an early jump on things.

Ah, we're all a little crazy here in Alaska, late start or no late start! Actually, I'm so busy with my seedlings indoors, that I'm seldom tempted to jump the gun.
