last fall, after the dry weather and it started to rain again here in western massachusetts i had a lot of mushrooms growing in my woodlands garden and my grass. some of these were huge. but the only one that bothered me was a new climbing hydrangea plant i had planted in spring. the mushrooms, big brown ones were through the whole plant. i took them away but didn't know what else to do. it was already close to frost and soon after that we had snow and freezing weather.
what do i do about this in the spring?
mushrooms galore
Probably these are toadstools: the fruiting bodies of soil-dwelling fungus. What to do? Leave them alone -- they are all very poisonous, or toss them if you have hungry kids or pets. They won't interfere with any of your plants. And some of them are kind of interesting to look at for a few days.
Lupy's right debi_z!

thanks.....i don't even have to remove them from around the plant? wow. thank you for your words of wisdom. ladies.
debi'z
Debi, if you do remove them, be sure to wash your hands after touching them -- almost all are very toxic to animals (including humans :)
