need info from you Westerners

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

The famous Roadrunner gave me some seeds of "desert willowtree" on her last visit here. I can't seem to find any info it by that name. Ya'll know of it's "real" name or have info on how to germinate it, how big it gets, misc info, etc?
(As you can see I'm anxious to get stuff started in the greenhouse!)
Thanks!

Shoe...I KINOW you can start them as I actually had 3 wee ones about an inch high when I went back East...and DD let them die. The Extension office had told me to just start them in sand and water them....which I did. Jo

Great! Thanks. The seeds look really hard, was just wondering if they needed "nipping" before I planted them.
Good sites, both of you. Now I just gotta amend my clay soil for them!
Thanks, Jo for the seeds. (Now to find out more about this here Mexican Bird of Paradise...what ya'll do to my wimpy brain!)

Thanks, Shoe, like my wish list needed to get any longer!

The mexican bird of paradise is Caesalpinia Pulcherrima. I nicked the edge, soaked them for 24 hours, then put them in a damp paper towel in a baggie. Every one sprouted.

Thanks Ronna. (I just re-read my above post about knicking the seeds of desert willow; I obviously was confused! The desert willow seeds are small and kinda hairy, but certainly not hard, so will sow those directly in soil pots. It was the little bag of Mex Bird of Paradise that are the hard ones, and yes Ronna, I will nick them/soak and plant.)
By the way Ronna, were you gonna put desert willow on your wish list? I'm sure RR can harvest more seeds for ya! And if not, when mine germinate and get some size on a couple I'll mail you a plant or two.

Ronna...I still have some Desert Willow...email me if you want some....Jo
