Okay, no tar and feathers from my friends up north, please.
We are experiencing one of those wonderful mid-winter thaws this weekend, and I'm taking full advantage of it - tidying up my GH, watering the overwintering plants in there, and getting some winter sowing done (because winter will undoubtedly be back in a few days...) and pruning the fruit trees (much safer to do it when my fingers aren't numb!)
What's everyone else doing this weekend?
50 degrees today, 60 tomorrow!
You lucky dog! Have fun- like you need to be told that, LOL. We are still a chilly 38 degrees. I feel like spring WILL NEVER get here. *sob*
Kristi
Welp, was semi-overcast here, with a high of 50...fairly warm! Tomorrow will be like today and makes me wanna go buy some minnows and head to the river!
Ended up today in the ghouse for a bit...then researching more stuff, and writing a bit. (Really need to clean up this shoffice tho!)
This coming week is sposed to have some warm periods but they say a chance of COLD moving back in Thursday...guess I better enjoy it while I can.
Vols, ya'll prune your trees up there this early in the year?
I have been spending a lot of time on my seeds and seedlings the last few days. With the continual cold and snow for the last few weeks, it is my only chance to get my hands dirty!
Also been working hard at the PDB, you slavedriver! ;D (just kidding: I have been slacking off the last couple days -- unlike you and Baa)
hmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm she said please didnt she............stiring the pot.....hmmmmmmmmmmm.
its been warm here to about 34 and by tuesday 40!
=]
it was 80 in the gh!
lolol, notmartha, I bet it's warm in your GH because of that there TAR POT you've got warming up!!!!
It'll undoubtedly be back down to normal temps (or colder) by next week, so we're taking advantage of the sunshine and warm temps anytime we can.
'shoe, to answer your question: yes we can and do prune anytime this month. If I waited until March (like I did last year), the goofy weather could turn warm (like it did last year), and I would find it's suddenly too late to prune :( It's amazing how much unwanted growth the fruit trees can put on in a single season....grrr.
We had 40º today, then some RAIN. That's a first around here. I thought the Arizona desert was moving in! We had to run fans in greenhouse because it got to hot!

mid 60's today , upper 60's tomorrow and 70 on monday. i spent all afternoon outside at my mother in laws digging trees. i got the sassafrass dug and found myself some hollies and small pine trees and oaks too. plan on planting onions tomorrow.
we all have crazy goofy, unexplainable weather and London, in the Uk receives snow!!! go figure!!!!!! Elaine
*confused here: doesn't London get snow often? or at least annually? Or just the interminable fog?
Today it was 50 here, and all the snow is gone! I spent most of the day outside :) Supposed to be high of 25 tomorrow, snow, wind, you name it. But I got a spring-like day at last.
lupinelover, I'm so glad for you - doesn't it feel great to get even one day of sunny, springlike weather?
We're at ~60 right now, supposed to be a high of 39 tomorrow, and colder the rest of the week. Oh, well - I just enjoy the sunshine and warmth whenver it shows up :)

Those of us who live in the tropics of Southern England do get an annual snow dusting (maybe a blizzard/heavy snowfall every 12-15 years or so). I even posted a picture last year of my garden, scantily clad in snow. However, the way the media and local councils treat it, you'd think we'd never seen snow. Of course, this causes utter kaos on the transport system ... no news there then! A famous line from the Rail companies some years ago was a report that some trains weren't running because of the 'Wrong type of snow' on the lines.
The Midlands and North see farm more of the white stuff than we do here and in London.
Forgot to add, pea soupers are much less a feature of the London cityscape these days. Clean air policies saw to that, although clean air in London is something of a misnomer *G*
Baa, LOL about the "wrong type of snow"! What, exactly, would the "right type" be?
In some of the western states, the radio stations report that driving conditions are slow on certain roads due to "sunshine" in the winter.
Ahh now the wrong type of snow is dry snow ... apparently! We also have the wrong type of leaves on the line occasionally.
I suppose the glare from the tarmac can be really dazzling especially in winter.
hmpf, while you all have been basking, we momentarily got up to 40 - heavens to Murgatroyd!!! Today, we got up to 15, ah, normality. My dear daughter never hesitates to give me the weather from southern Kentucky and just how much gardening she's been doing and how many lovely woodland walks she's taken.
I have 3 tiny pansy plants trying to decide if they should dive back into their seed casings. I'm ging to go plant some more unfortunate seeds and subject them to my tender care any day now.
Bitter, you say? No, that's just the windchill getting under my skirts.
Poor Kathleen - we feel for ya! (Of course, that's because we haven't lost our ability to feel - no frostbite here!!!) They're calling for snow tonight - I figure that means we'll either wake up to sunny, dry conditions or 6" of snow - who knows?
It's just wet, wet, wet here. Some storm front has moved in and the rain pounding on the metal roof is more deafening than charming. We've been pumping out our basement again. I can't really say that we've had winter this year. There was a brief cold period, but since then, it's been in the high 30' and 40's F. So, instead of shoveling snow, we are pumping water. I'm concerned that the perennials I've wintered over in pots will rot at the roots before spring thaw. Yes, it's been some strange winter!
