That was fun!
I'm Cottage Romantic.
Let time pass as you dream about your home in the English countryside surrounded by blooming pink roses. You are a romantic at heart, and love the style of a garden that is as carefree as you are. Let your sentimentality play into your garden!

Enjoy heirloom flowers like daisies, black-eyed Susans and hollyhocks, or plant butterfly favorites like coneflowers, sage and yarrow. Either way, your garden will be a graceful yet free-spirited -- a perfect place for an afternoon picnic where you and your loved one can cuddle.
I think they are spot on.

What are you?

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm so glad you enjoyed taking the "Garden Personality" quiz!

A "Country Romantic" sounds lovely, with lots of heirloom flowers & blooming roses. Do you grow Lavender with your flowering plants to compliment floral arrangements and to entice your sense of smell? It sounds very tranquil, loving, and reminiscent of cottages in merry ol' England.

I took the "Garden Personality" test twice. Both times, it told me that I love excitment, bold & vibrant colors, such as pink, fuschsia & lime green, as well as, lush Hibiscus, surrounded by colorful coleus, in my "Tropical Jungle"! Aaahhhh....take me away...........I'm making plans for my little grass shack to be nestled amongst the Brugmansia trees, fragrant Jasmine & Clematis vines, plus the PawPaw trees & my veggie garden, which will give me sustenance. I'll have tropical sounds playing from the C.D., moonlight filtering through the Banana leaves, as I sit back and sip my Pina Colada :~) (In my dreams - SIGH)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm a cottage romantic according to them, too. I tell ya, I love the cottage look more than anything, but the work I prefer is low-maintenance! ;)

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

Looks as though we are all Romantic so far. I am a Cottage Romantic. How this compares to a Country Romantic, I'm not sure. Aren't Cottages in the Country? Or is the Country full of Cottages? Now I am really confused. Thanks for the fun!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

In my opinion, the "Cottage look" is very romantic. I think of gorgeous gardens filled with Delphiniums, Hollyhocks, colorful Poppies, Roses, Clematis and Sweet Peas twinning along the roadside fences, as well as, ducks & geese making lazy circles in the pond.

On the other hand, a "Country Romantic" has organically grown their own flowers, fruits, and veggies, surrounded by lots of wildflowers blowing in the wind. A "knot" herb garden is a definite must for the "country romantic", because it is used for both culinary & medicinal purposes.

That's what comes to my mind when I think of "country" vs. the "cottage look". What are your thoughts on the "Cottage vs.the Country" look?

Which ever garden describes your personality, I'm definitely in favor of a low-maintenance one!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i'm a cottage romantic. i was just asking someone about what flowers are in this type of garden and low and behold i have most of them. of course i checked out the other personalities too and except for the japanese zen and the "formal" i had there plants too. LOL well not all of them, but......:)
I would like to stear my garden more towards the cottage look.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Interesting how some of us fall into the "Cottage Romantic" or "Tropical Jungle Girls" categories. One for the Woodland scene and one just a "mess"! Right "eyes", like we really believe that! :~)

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

I am a romantic/woodland; and I did not see any of the movies!! Where is Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter//

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Country Romantic also! Organized chaos in home and garden....Elaine

Dover, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the quiz...another Cottage Romantic here :)

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Marcia, a Romantic/Woodland. Excellent! Very descriptive!!

Hey, I like that "eyes", great combination! :~)

Elaine, I thought for sure you would have combined "Country Romantic" and Tropical. YOU were the one who figured out the elusive type of Pinecone Ginger that Shoe was trying to identify! Very impressive :~)

Hi Rudbeckia, Welcome! Glad you enjoyed the quiz too! I haven't seen you hangin' round the garden....newbie??? So glad you joined in the fun!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

I am another Cottage Romantic with my first answers. I took it a second time with the answers that I was torn on and came out a European Formal. LOL I am NOT formal but I DO enjoy the finer things in life. Someday when I am rich I will travel and see all the great gardens of the world including those of you on DG. But for now I will enjoy my Cottage Romantic garden in progress.

How do I do a Cottage Romantic garden that takes little care though? LOL

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

LOL

if you find out, Pond..let me know :)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Uh Oh! I'm a Tropical Jungle. How in the world did that happen? I guess I just have to convince my Tarzan that we have to move.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

What a riot! I hear you Ponditis. I think we ALL enjoy the "finer things in life"! The only problem is affording them! Do you have a lot of structure and/or "backbone" in your garden? Maybe that is why you found out that you have a European formal flair! Also, symmetry and balance comes to my mind. Do you like order, neatness, and try to control these in you life or in your garden?

LOL Joan! I'd love to see a Tropical Jungle in North Dakota! Won't say that it can't be done, but it would take a whole lot of container plantings, plus "winterizing" your palm trees! :~) Perhaps, you want to vacation in a Tropical Jungle, retire in Fiji or Bora Bora :~)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Is no one else a woodland natural?

does that mean I'm just gunna have to go out in the woods by myself..........

theres nothing natural about me......did I say that right?

dobie, ON(Zone 3a)

Asian/Zen here, they were right I do hate clutter. Thanks for the quizz Shirley.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

tropical jungle gal here

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Who me? Order and neatness??????? NOT THIS GIRL!!!!! I just want to see the large cities of the world in the quiz along with the gardens near those cities. I think that question is what put my second set of answers into that catagory. I also want to have a maid to take care of what stuff I don't want to take care of. LOL And the only structure in MY yard is that I am putting in a patio and a pond next to it. As far as backbone, my DH's backbone comes to mind, he complains about his backbone hurting all the time and mine hurts too!!! Hmmmm if I was rich I would also have the money to hire all that hard work done for us.

I LIKE THAT idea. :~) Lani

Sodwana Bay KZN, South Africa

Hi all, a desert native here - hehee, of course!
Just the plants they are trying to match me up with don't quite fit in, rather stay with the ones from my neck of the woods - ehm, desert!
Low-maintenance organised mess for sure!

Looks like I am sitting all alone in the desert, too....
Maddy in South Africa - not quite in the desert but I am trying my best :-)

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

maddy welcome from michigan! Ive always had a fasination with africa-Id luv to see lions and elephants and wildebeast in the wild! i hear its warm there too! =]
glad to have you hear with us.

Old Town (Gainesvill, FL(Zone 8a)

Hahahhahahaha I am a Low Maintenance, and it said my bills sit unopened for months (which is true) and sometimes I can't even find them (which is true too) hahahah I always say my plants are tough I don't get things that need alot of care, they go in my garden I watch them, and take care of occasionally but overall I guess its true that I am low maintenance... I think it might have something to do with my answering my dream house is "anywhere with a maid" and my bed being the one that says "its a mess who has time to make a bed much less color coordinate it" hahahha

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

Really cool link! I tried it a couple of times. First time it said Asian/Zen. That didn't seem like my kind of gardening and my house is always cluttered. So i took it a second time and came out as Cottage Romantic. That fit much better, but still didn't seem quite right. When I looked at the different possibilities, I belive that Woodland Natural is really my gardening personality. Lily of the Valley, Columbines, and Bleeding hearts are some of my very favorite flowers. Unfortunately, they don't grow in my area--or at least don't do well.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Welcome Maddy from South Africa! Glad you joined in the fun!

Glad y'all are having fun with the Garden Personality quiz! We are collecting quite an assortment of answers! Love it!!

Sodwana Bay KZN, South Africa

Thanks for the welcome, guys! :-)
notmartha, you mean like this?
The picture was taken in the Kruger National Park in early January. It was 38 deg C at the time, they were resting in the shade of a tree. Note how they are leaning against each other!
Oops, not quite the right forum for this. Well, it's wildlife, but after all they are in a VERY big, natural garden...

Thanks for showing us "YOUR very big natural garden". ;~) Since you are in the Southern hemisphere and having the complete opposite temperatures from us, who are freezing and some who are buried up to their "noses" in snow, it's certainly nice to see a picture of grass (minus the snow) and green trees! Plus, I promise to be good and NOT say anything about the elephant's derriere.....politely stated!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

That's a terrific picture Maddy - it is wonderful for us to meet people from other countries. I'm in Canada, just today on daves I've looked at armadillos and elephants - how cool is that?
As to the quiz? I'm with Rooty - I'm a Tropical Party Girl -what the heck am I doing living in a temperate rain forest??

Well it said Asian/Zen--but I would question that--I guess--I mean you can take simplicity a little far. I consider myself eclectic if anything (I am always trying something new)

Liz, I'm Tropical Jungle too, guess it's time to move somewhere warm.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

YES YES like that-thanks for sharing. Im just intrigued by all of africa! =]

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Hey crestedchik....I came out Woodland Natural twice. I'll walk in the woods with ya!
