Drop-dead Gorgeous

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

So what is on your must-have list for this year?

What have you seen that is so beautiful you JUST MUST HAVE it?

Love, Lavanda

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

Mel Gibson came to mind. If I can't have that, I will settle for Buddleia lindleyana. I have never seen it around here, but found it in the Plant Delights catalog. It looks lovely. Since I'm at it, and have to spend the postage any way, I'm also getting some humming bird plants: Bouvardia ternifolia, Anisacanthus wrightii and Dicliptera suberecta.
Still looking, but those are must haves.

Mel Gibson instead of a butterfly bush any day!!!!!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

- Podophyllum, "Kaleidoscope" - mottled umbrella shaped leaves with clusters of burgundy flowers that bloom in Spring. Great along pathways in a woodland garden.

- Aquilegia "Origami" - two toned Columbine (YES!)

- Aquilegia atrata, "Black Columbine"-not really black, but deep deep purple, that looks black.

- Helleborus foetidus, "Gold Bullion" - golden leaves...now put this next to Aquilegia, "Black Columbine"...NOW, THAT WOULD BE A MAGNIFICENT COMBINATION!!!

- Clematis, lots of new introductions like,..."Kullus"-silvery lavender flowers that only grow about 5-6ft. tall that would be great for containers.

- Mandevilla x ambilis, "Tango Twirl" - double pink soft blooms that twine their way up to 15-20ft.

Those are just a few of my, "must haves"!

Mel Gibson?? Dogs, and here I thought ya'll were calling out for me. :>(

As for my must-have list, I'd like 3 hired hands, a bigger greenhouse, warmer weather so I can get started with the growing season, the ability to go to at least one DG Roundup this year, and the knowledge to grow things like Cala does. (Oh yeh, and an outhouse, close to the shoffice.) (With a heated seat.)

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Abutilon's new white canna, 'Beloved'.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

I will take a page out of Shoe's notebook and say I wanta go to a Roundup also. Now, are we comparing Mel to you Shoe? I would say you run him a pretty close race in male charm!!! 'Course we all know that all you great guys are taken so we are just a josing when we say we have you on our wish list. My DH might just have a few words to say on that subject too! LOL! We have gotten rid of all our youngins so he won't be too pleased to add another mouth to feed to the expenses. I guess I just better be practical and wish for some good plant trades in the spring. Daylilies, daylilies, daylilies would be my three things I want most.

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

I am just about to break down and order Joan Lorraine--varigated heliopsis from Plants Delight, wanted her last year but waited too long and they sold out. Also the brugmansia Sunset. Adenophora Bulleyana, campanula punctata "Cherry Bells", Catmint "Walkers Low". That is a good start.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Debby, if you mean Brugmansia 'Tropical Sunset' I can help you out in the spring?! John

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Pardancanda,
I would also be interested in Brug 'Tropical Sunset'
Thanks

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Debby, that heliopsis is the one I am hunting for too! When I first fed my eyes on this g orgeous specimen.....I actually saw it from quite a distance..but the variegated foliage stood absolutely out there! Elaine

Brugmansia 'Rosie' to plant in memory of my beloved Boykin Spaniel 'Rosie' or any plant named 'Rosie'.
She use to stay right by my side whenever,I worked in the yard. I want to have a special place in my yard just for her-my 'Rosie' garden.

LOL! I'll pass on Mel Gibson, but if you want to talk drop dead gorgeous, for me, it's Richard Gere. If I can't have him, I'd settle for a free professional landscaper no matter what he looks like. If I can't have have him either, then I'd settle for a knowledgable county agent.

Okay, Okay, I'm asking for a lot! LOL!

I'd love to have the Joan Lorraine plant that Debby mentioned. My name is Joan and I lost my sister Lorraine to cancer 6 years ago. I'm going to have to see if I can find that plant.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Christmascac, there is Rosie Odonnell rose out there somewhere...

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I'm still looking for Lobelia siphilitica "White Candles". This is one of the plants that I had wanted from Plants Delight, but would pay the $26.00 in shipping for it. If anyone finds this anywhere else, please let me know...I have been searching everywhere.

Donna

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

So Cal, I had a white lobelia stalk sprout in the clump of my blue siphilitica. I'm not sure it's still there... but I'll keep my eye out for it this next season. I certainly wouldn't pay that kinda money for it. If it's still there maybe I can seperate it from the clump.

I want DAYLILIES - Shaka Zulu & Ed Brown, PHLOX - Goldmine, Rubymine & Lizzy, one of the new yellow foliaged spiderworts, and the purple heart spiderwort. The 'Whitecap' peony & 'Frosty Morn' sedum have been on my wanted list for a long time but I'm too cheap to buy them. Hmmm.... the longer I sit here the more plants I could come up with. I'll check out that heliopsis... I probably want that too ;)

Shoe... will you share a chunk of Cala's thumb if you get it?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Okay ... I found it http://www.em.ca/garden/per_heliopsis_loraine_sunshine.html I want it too!

Hmmm I always find this difficult. I've tried to tell myself that buying new plants for the first half of this year is banned until I've sown what I want from the seeds I already have, however, I'm always in the league for something a little more.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

my wants are iris and daylilies as many different kinds as i can get my lil hands on!!!!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Elena, maybe we can work out a trade in daylilies. I am trying to get my list updated, but very slow in doing so. I have a lot of daylilies that are older and I must move to make room for newer ones. rutholive (Donna)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Debby, I planted Campanula 'Cherry Bells' two or three years ago. I do like it, lovely color, here it tends to be sprawley. I would be glad to send you a start next spring. rutholive (Donna)

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Donna, that sounds good to me. Pls. send me an email so I can remember to contact you closer to spring. This message in this post will get lost by then. I will have to get a trade list organized once I see what makes it through the winter. I will also be planting perennial seeds a little later on so I will hopefully have plants from those also. I never "count my chickens before they hatch" or my plants before they actually make it to adulthood. LOL! A lot can happen from planting time to the point of having mature plants.

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Donna: That would be fine. I planted Campunula Takesmania "Elizabeth" 2 yrs. ago. Last year, she didn't get too tall, but we were so dry. I am sure we could do a trade when spring gets here.

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

1601, Poppysue and Joan: I found Loraine Sunshine aka Joan Lorraine at Sugarcreek Gardens at Kirkwood, Mo. They sell it in a 1 gal. for 7.95. They are listed in Dave's Garden WatchDog, with positive comebacks. They would be closer for me. Didn't check out the shipping cost yet. Did notice on the website they are taking orders now and to get the rare items ordered early.
