Yesterday I had a lawn full of Robins!!! I was excited but sad. The poor babies must be finding it tough to get anything to eat in a frozen solid lawn! But...the bright side is I guess spring is truly on it's way :)
Spring is on it's way
It is , it is ,I can see buds pushing in the berries and various other plants. Hope we don't end up with a late Arctic blast here which has happened in the past and that can do lots of damage.
Yes, buds here too! I hope there isn't a late freeze too, usually by the end of March we are ok, but we aren't 100% safe until mid April. At least the temps are starting to get somewhat back to normal now, no heat wave but I'll take 40's over 20's any day ;)
Yes - I have Daffs up about 3 inches and a few little pink Thrift blooms. Also some of the trees with buds.
Oooooh! I am green with envy!! We had more snow last night! I would love to see all these buds! Alas I will have to wait! Maybe someone can post up a few pics for me!
But then therre are the Camellias, several of them have big buds, but they have all turned brown now due to the cold. Sad!
Jody, those robins are finding lots and lots of insects: all those pests that infest our gardens during the warm season. The starlings and robins in our area continually find them all winter when they come up to the surface to bask in the warmth. If you can find a slightly warm patch, just watch! Really makes my day to see them munching next season's headaches away :D
We got down to 0F last night, but had 4" of new snow to protect the ground. Bbbbrrrrrr
About a week ago before the last arctic blast, I saw a robin, but havent seen any since then.
We usually get a slew of them when they are possing thru from Mexico going North, but it isnt the case yet, so I imagine spring isnt close . The Robins are much more on target than ol P Phil, who is, after a yankee !
Hey, we had our first snow today. Maybe 2". My son says we need to move things to the greenhouse soon, basement is filling up! Must be near spring!
ßernie
It is above freezing!!!!!!!! At 1:00 pm it was 36F!!!!!!!!
Snow is melting, streets are full of yucky slush, roofs are dripping melted ice down along the foundations everywhere, but who cares!!!! It is above freezing!!!!!! First time in more than 2 weeks :~D
Maybe I will get to be out more than a few seconds at a time without turning into a frozen popsicle. Yippety doo dah!
jody.up here in Western Canada is has been so very mild...my tulips are up by 2-3", the old garden roses are leafing out slowly and the snowdrops are in bloom....not only that,....the weirdest yet is a Buddleia in bud(my golden one)! yikes!!!!!! Elaine
Yes, it's been mild here in Southcentral Alaska, as well. We usually have a good layer of snow on everything by now, but not this year. Ah, well, we'll still be getting snow in February and March, maybe April.
It's suppose to be around 50 here this weekend! I've got spring fever and the winter "blahs" soooooo bad! Seems like Dec flew by and jan is dragging it's heals, LOL.
The robins are still in the yard, as well as a variety of other birds. Hope they are finding plenty to eat!
I'm beginning to worry about my plants. They just aren't getting their well-deserved rest. The weather has been so warm lately, that I am losing my snow mulch on the beds and will soon have to straw mulch them. Such strange weather this winter.
weez..Happy Birthday from Southern B.C. have a good one!!! Elaine
Thanks, Elaine!
Spring, huh? Well, maybe up there on the Atlantic Coast. I'm watching the news forecast right now: we'll get down in the teens tonight and we have another chance of rain/snow mix by late Wednesday/early Thursday. Brrrrrr!
And here I am up in the 'frozen north'...hah! We're having flood warnings again, my basement is taking on water again, and it's been raining for two days. We've hardly had winter here this year. The world has gone topsy turvy.
